Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County

Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County The Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, private animal shelter that serves all of Kosciusko County!

We take in strays and owner surrenders of dogs and cats! Come see our adoptable pets! An animal is admitted to our shelter in one of three ways. Many concerned community members who bring us lost animals in hopes we can locate their owner. We partner with both the City of Warsaw and Kosciusko County Animal Care & Control, who has 24/7 access to our facility to drop off a lost animal in a secure lo

cation. Finally, many of our fellow pet lovers surrender their animal to our care because changed life circumstances no longer allow them to give their pet the proper care. All animals that come into the care of the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County are immediately given a thorough assessment.
• Illness / Injury Assessment - We have the capacity to treat superficial illness and injury in-house. For more severe illness and injury, we partner with many local veterinarian offices. For our very young kitten and puppies, we have volunteer neo-natal caregivers who foster them until they are old enough or healthy enough to go up for adoption.
• Spay and Neuter Program: To control the county’s pet population, we spay or neuter every animal in need.
• Behavior Assessment: We do a behavior evaluation to determine how the animal is with people, dogs and cats.
• Vaccinations: We get them up to date on all necessary vaccines. This screening process can take anywhere from three days up to three months, depending on the condition of the animal when they arrive. For those animals who have existing issues we don’t have the facilities to address, we partner with specialized breed rescues or participate in an animal exchange with another rescue organization, so we can give the animal the best chance at finding a fur-ever home. While the animal is waiting to be adopted, our dedicated volunteers help care and socialize our animals by taking them on walks or runs or spending quality time with them in one of our cuddle rooms. We take the utmost care in ensuring our adoptable animals are fit with the right family. When a potential family arrives at the shelter, they meet their possible fur-kid in one of our cuddle rooms. In cases where another pet is already in the home, we encourage them to bring in that pet for a meet and greet as well. Finally, we offer a trial adoption period where a potential owner can host the animal for a short time to ensure the animal is a good fit for their home. We are proud to say that, because of this program, our animal return rate has decreased significantly.

🐱 UPDATE 🐱
Everyone but Kahlua, Hennessy, Cici and Moo have been adopted!

🐾 Adoptable Kittens! 🐾

We have 16 kittens available for adoption right MEOW!

Our kittens range in ages from 9 weeks of age to 16 weeks!

Kittens are young and adaptable so, with slow introductions, they will easily adjust into homes with other animals and children! ✨

And these ones are already litterbox trained! Just remember the N+1 rule, meaning you should always provide one litterbox for each cat plus one additional box to avoid accidents!

Take a sneak peek at some of our adoptable kittens below! We are still working on getting photos of everyone, so we can put them all on our website ☺️

Our adoptable kittens are $50!
They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, microchipped and dewormed!

Our Cat House is still closed due to short staffing, so please come to our main building to visit select available cats and kittens!

Our 9 week old litter (the bird names) will not be available under after 12:30pm ish tomorrow! They will be at the Milford Library beforehand for an educational program ☺️

Come meet them! 💜

Cat House Update and available kittens! 😍

Starting tomorrow, Friday June 12th, we will have some kittens and cats available for adoption! We have three litters of kittens that are now spayed/neutered and ready to go home, and some adult cats too 💜

Our kittens range in ages between 8 weeks - 16 weeks of age!

If you missed it, we recently had to cautionary quarantine our entire Cat House due to a fungal infection that came with a recent hoarding situation we took in. All cats were quarantined for two weeks as a precaution, regardless of level of exposure, and there have been no new illness in two weeks! 😁 However, our Cat House will still remain closed at this time due to short staffing.

Come to our main building to check out our available kittens, adult cats and our dogs too!

Adoption Update on Sixx! 😍

If you remember this older gentleman, he was surrendered to us last March at about 8 years of age because his owner was unable to care for him any longer.

He was adopted about a month later and now is living his BEST LIFE in Florida! 🌴 He LOVES the beach and watching the birds. He loves attention, belly rubs and is loving his fur siblings (both dogs and cats) too! 😍

His adopter says he is the bestest boy and is still working on that stubborn weight loss! He was 131 lbs when he was surrendered, but he is looking much healthier now!

We love to see our adoption updates! Please keep sending them in!

✨ Before and After of Felicity ✨

You're probably wondering if you have deja vu 😂 because didn't we just post this?
Nope! That was for Cha Cha (now named Maggie). This sweet girl is Felicity. 💜

Maggie and Felicity were two of the three dogs that were on the run near Magical Meadows for a few weeks. We just posted Maggie's adoption update yesterday (check it out if you missed it) and since Felicity was caught about a week after Maggie, she finally got her spa day! 🧼

The third dog, Journey, is safe and available for adoption over at New Hope Pet Rescue!

We want to thank Tori, a dog groomer over at Warsaw's PetSmart, for donating her time (and clippers) to help us finish shaving Felicity today! She feels so much better and wanted to sunbathe for a little while in her new skin! 🥰 When we eventually got those mats off her paws, we discovered she does have a pretty gnarly wound in between her toes that she will be sedated for and cleaned up on Friday!

Felicity is now spayed and nearly ready for adoption after that wound check up and nice bath to fully rid her of all that flea dirt and grime that was hiding under her matting. She has been a friendly girl with us and now she is walking with confidence! ✨

If you’re looking to adopt, keep an eye out for Felicity or take a lot at our other dogs!

Final Update: Apollo has been adopted!

UPDATE: He has a couple families interested in him that came to visit him today! We will see tomorrow if either one is the perfect match!

😍 Where's our Doberman lovers at? 😍

This is Apollo, and he is 10 months old! Still very much a puppy!

He came into our shelter due to his owner being evicted from his home. He came in with another male dog, a pitbull mix, named Atlas who will also be up for adoption soon! We did not get to speak to his owner, so our information is pretty limited as far as Apollo's home manners and living situation.

We do know Apollo is a... derpy puppy. 😂 He is goofy, looks like a newborn deer still learning how to use his long legs and is learning that new environments are okay!

While it appears Apollo hasn't been socialized too much outside of his home, he has done well with strangers (though is a little unsure at first) and so far has done pretty well with other dogs! ✨

We recommend a cat free home for him unless you are experienced with introducing dogs to cats in your home setting! Apollo exhibited a bit of a prey drive here.

He is now neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for his home! His adoption fee is $150! He does need an additional booster vaccination that is covered in that adoption fee and will be scheduled with us.

Come see him!
