Happy St. Patrick's Day from Happy Tails Haven!!
Our boy William has conditions called Cushing's and Anhidrosis.
Cushing's is a condition that prevents William's winter coat from shedding out in the spring time. Cushing's can be managed with a medication called Prascend.
Anhidrosis is a condition where horses lose their ability to sweat making it difficult to regulate their body temperature, especially as it gets warmer. So I'm Williams case, he has a thick coat when the weather gets warmer and he doesn't have the ability to sweat. But what can help him? Beer! Specifically dark beer! Beer is a traditional remedy to help stimulation sweating in horses! After talking to our vet, they recommended giving William one can of beer in his grain to help manage his Anhidrosis!

March 1st is World Horse Day or National Horse Protection Day. The day aims to help the thousands of unwanted horses find their forever homes. Today is celebrated to recognize the need to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses that have been neglected, abused, or unwanted. Inspire the public to protect horses and celebrate and honor the role horses have played in history.

The best horses in Heaven
they have no tail.
This is a rule they all know
without fail.
For when a new horse arrives
with a short cut bob,
they all know that this horse
did a very good job.
Her owner could not bear
to part with her friend
so she saved her tail,
wrapped in ribbons
and in braids,
to hold with her memory
in a very loving way.
To enter Heaven
without a tail
is an honor,
a message,
that without fail
announces to everyone,
far and wide
that this horse
was more than a wonderful ride.
But
this horse was loved and cherished by one
and when his time serving on this Earth was done
She left behind
a broken heart
and a soul
from which she never will part.

As we prepare to ring in the new year, we want to thank everyone who has supported us this year and reflect on our intakes this year. We welcomed Chili, Chief, Anni,Patti, Tess, Ruby (now called Rain by her new family), Ranger and Tiny Tim (now called Rocket by his new family). Thank you for your support and continued support into the new year! We have lots of fun things planned!

As we close on 2024, we wanted to take a moment to remember the ones that will remain in 2024, but will forever remain in our hearts. Earlier this year we lost sweet Mr. Mickey to severe colic. He is deeply missed by everyone. We know he is enjoying the green pastures of heaven. ♥️🐴
