Last year, I trained a dog who never really left my thoughts. When his owner surrendered him to me this July due to no fault of his own, it came with a lot of trust and a quiet promise I made to him, that I’d find him somewhere he felt safe and wanted. Over the weekend, that promise finally landed. MaryLou had just lost her husband of seventy years and her home had gotten very quiet. She hoped for a companion to fill the quiet with presence, to give and receive love, to share simple routines. Watching them together felt like relief and love at once. I’m deeply thankful to Mary Lou, and to him for trusting us both. He’s home.
