Hey all! Since I’m not able to professionally groom anymore due to health issues, i was thinking about making some how to videos from a professional pet stylist’s perspective. (Say that 10 times fast 🤣🤣)
What do you think?
Here’s a little more about my background:
I have 21 years of professional work experience (starting work at food shops at 15 years old), worked up to 3 jobs at one time in high school, worked all through college, went to Penn State for 2 years then earned my Bachelors in Marketing from California University of PA.
I have a total of 14 years in the animal industry, starting at a local franchised pet store (turned into a corporate store as i was working there). I worked my way up from cashier to the head of the animal department, then a professional dog trainer for a year, trained how to groom in 2010, then in the grooming industry for the next 12 years!
I worked my way up in the store’s salon and became the second in command for about 50 grooming salons along the East coast and central, traveling about 10 months of the year. Learned a ton from my managers, who i saw as my mentors, they were hard on me but in a good way, always pushing me to be the best i could be. Each manager had something different to teach me, in their own ways.
I traveled to Illinois, Washington DC, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey (there could be some Ive forgotten to mention)... I have met awesome, interesting people with every new store i helped to open! I was there for the construction of the salon all the way to the Grand Opening events and sometimes even staying longer to fill in when needed. I helped with setting up the salons, interviewing, hiring, training academy for new groomers, filling in until we found a new groomers, and helped the new groomers with Grand Opening Free Nail Trim events to help them run smoothly. I said “Yes” to every opportunity that seemed right!
As the franchise became more and more corporate, it was going a way I, personally, didn’t want to follow, so it was time for a change. I worked in a private sector vet salon for a year and fell in love with Pickerington and the people in this area. Reminded me of my hometown back in the Pittsbugh area.
When the moment seemed right, and with lots of support from my loved ones, we started my mobile grooming business. I was paying all of my own bills by 3 months of business and was so booked i could no longer able to accept new clients within 17 months. Had 7 beautiful years with all of my clients! I hate how it had to end, but sometimes even the good things have to end to make way for bigger and better things ❤️. Know that i love every single pup i groomed, gave kisses and hugs to all, and i pray for them and their families often! 🙏
I feel like I may have some knowledge that could be useful to someone, maybe someone just starting out on this journey. I would love to start an academy, but that would be very expensive. Maybe someday, your gal has big dreams 😏.
I’d love to know your thoughts!
What would you all love to see?
Do you have questions for your groomer?
How does a salon work?
How to set up a salon?
How to schedule groomers?
How to schedule dogs?
How to trim nails?
How to trim around eyes?
How to do a deshed?
How to become a groomer?
How to start a business?
Any input is very much appreciated!
