Attention all dog owners:
This is the time of year for both human and dog colds so just wanted to clarify a couple things about dog colds
Myth 1
Dogs only catch kennel cough in a kennel.
False. Kennel cough is airborne and can be transferred to dogs at Veterinary offices, dog parks, training and grooming facilities, pet stores, and anyone's home that has dogs.
Myth 2
My dog was vaccinated so they should not get it.
False. The vaccination is the same as a flu shot and only covers certain strands so even if humans and dogs have been vaccinated they can still get sick.
Please be considerate of others and if you notice your dog coughing or sneezing please do not take them around other dogs.
Since it’s highly contagious among dogs, I kindly ask all customers to monitor their dogs for any symptoms. If your dog is showing any signs, please let us know immediately, and keep your dog off daycare for atleast 2 weeks.
⚠️ Symptoms to Watch For:
🔹 Persistent, dry cough (often sounds like honking)
🔹 Gagging or retching (as if trying to clear their throat)
🔹 Sneezing or nasal discharge
🏡 How to Care for a Dog with Kennel Cough:
✔️ Keep them rested and limit physical activity.
✔️ Avoid exposure to cold air—use a humidifier to ease their throat.
✔️ Offer soft food or warm water over kibble if they seem sore.
✔️ Ensure plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated.
✔️ Honey or coconut oil (in small amounts) can help soothe irritation.
✔️ Isolate them from other dogs until symptoms fully resolve (usually 2 weeks).
While most mild cases clear up on their own, contact your vet if symptoms worsen (e.g., severe coughing, trouble breathing, or lack of energy).
