Did you know some dog breeds have a higher risk of developing certain types of cancer?

Golden Retrievers are more likely to develop hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma. Great Danes and Rottweilers face a higher risk of bone cancer. Scottish Terriers have one of the strongest breed-specific links to bladder cancer.

A higher genetic risk doesn't mean cancer is inevitable, but knowing what to watch for can help you recognize changes sooner and have important conversations with your veterinarian.

Learn which breeds are at higher risk, the cancers they're most prone to, and the warning signs every dog owner should know. 🐾 Link in the comments

We've been there and so have many others. Now what? The next step is to call your vet for a check up appointment. Your vet should be a guiding light during what might be some dark times. Meet 🐶🩷Honey 🩷🐶, our May CHECK YOUR DOG Dog of the Month: "I adopted Honey when she was 10 months old from a rescue society in Georgia 2017. mix breed schnauzer/Maltese . In November 2024 Honey was diagnosed with subpanicular hemangiosarcoma . Her blood levels were normal the veterinarian removed the mass Honey recovered well and survived for seven months.June 30 2025, two new tumors appeared aspirated also Hemangiosarcoma blood level was slightly anemic vet put her on prednisone level came up vet decided to remove the small tumors ultra sound was performed showed no internal organs effected. On July 10 2025 I took Honey to the University of Georgia the ultra sound and X-ray they performed diagnosis Metastatic Cutaneous Hemangiosarcoma abdominal nodules including icj was full thickness. How could that have possibly happened from June 30 to July 10 metastatic to full thickness when the ultra sound on June 30th showed nothing???" ~ Debbie Duke 🐾

Ozzie was a 50 lb Wheaton terrier that thought he was a lap dog, he would put his head on your knees or the side of your chair to beg to sit on your lap.

He was the best. He was almost 14 when he was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma.

Ozzie was with me my entire adult life! My sister described us as inseparable. His favorite thing was playing in the snow. He went everywhere with me, then my boyfriend turned husband and continued to be everywhere after our daughter Lily joined us - she is almost 4 now. He went hiking, road trips, on vacation, on the boat, the beach but most of all just cuddling with any human who made eye contact with him.

He lived half his life as a city dog then moved out to the lake and still stayed attached to me no matter where I was in the house. He would lay by my feet when I worked from home or lay by the door waiting for me to come home. He would dream while sleeping and we joked that he was chasing bunnies, something he was terrible at…He truly was special - to everyone in our lives.

His two year battle was strong. He was like a young pup again for most of it until his final days. On his last day we took him to the beach it was freezing - we pulled him in a beach wagon. He went peacefully before his body gave out - a decision I never thought I would be strong enough to make.
