Our friend has some great training advice”

“When your dog freezes, pulling harder isn’t always the answer.

We didn’t start here, first we introduced the slip lead by itself. But our girlie here is powerful and not particularly sensitive. We’ll continue to create a soft response to the leash but in the meantime, mom needed something she could feel more in control of her dog with. So we introduced the figure 8!

As we worked through conditioning, Rebel would hit the breaks and freeze.

And in those moments, I didn’t want her owner to respond by getting firmer, adding leash pressure, or simply pulling her through it.

She wasn’t being stubborn. She was unsure.

So instead, I had her owner move ahead, crouch down, face her dog, and encourage her forward, almost like becoming a magnet for her dog to move toward.

The second she committed to moving, her owner stood up and they continued walking together.

This is one of those little moments in training that matters so much.

When a dog is learning something new, I want to balance guidance with support. Yes, there are times we hold dogs accountable and expect follow-through. But when a dog is genuinely unsure, adding more pressure can create more stress around the very thing we’re trying to teach.

Sometimes the best way forward isn’t “You have to.”

It’s “I’ve got you. Come with me.”

That’s relationship.
That’s communication.
And that’s how we build trust while we train. 🐾”

“Meet Sasha! The easiest dog we have here.

She’s sweet, she’s mellow and she’s quiet. Not your typical husky 😅

We got her from a hoarding situation out in Fontana when her owner passed away in the home and no one knew about it for five days. Animal control wouldn’t come out and help me and the owners son was so unhinged trying to sell all the animals so I went there at night and started taking who I could. Luckily Sasha made it out of that situation.

Now it’s her turn to find an awesome home! She’s so sweet and she lived with about ten dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, etc at her last home.
