Morning Thoughts | no. 4

There’s a reason scent can feel different than other kinds of remembering.

Sometimes you don’t just remember the place. For a second, you can almost feel like you’re back inside it.

The weather. The room. The person you were with. Even the version of yourself you were then.

I love knowing there’s science underneath something that feels so human.

Soap making at The Spa at Camelback Inn 🤍

Truly a remarkable evening with an incredible group of humans whose one connecting point was soap making.

Guests were visiting from all over the country, some on vacation, some traveling through, and we all ended up around one table talking about scent memory, the places that stay with us, and what it looks like to do life on purpose.

And the setting for all of it? Absolutely next level. The Spa at Camelback Inn created the most beautiful backdrop for a genuinely elevated soap-making experience.

This is the whole point of these workshops for me. Making something with your hands is lovely. But the conversations, connections and memories that happen while we’re doing it are the part I love most.

Things that didn’t make the summer recap…

The less curated version 🤍

Somewhere between the Pacific and the Atlantic, the markets, workshops, road trips + camping, there was also extreme fog, a 1am AAAA call, wildfire smoke, tornado sirens, improvised booth walls, World Cup traffic, questionable weather preparedness and a surprisingly aggressive relationship with ants.

Here’s to the sunshine AND the tornados 🤍

One summer🤍

From the Pacific to the Atlantic and a whole lot of miles in between.

We made a lot of soap and went a lot of places. There were markets, workshops, long days in the studio, long days on the road, camping, photoshoots, friends, customers, dogs, turtles, rain and sunshine .

We got to bring new ideas to life (launched the IL Collection and spent the summer doing out of state markets) and return to familiar places.

One market, one workshop, one batch of soap, one new place + one connection at a time.

Morning thoughts | no. 3

Hazelnut coffee = my 4th grade teacher
Scope mouthwash = my high school boyfriend
Bath & Body Works Honeysuckle = my mom
Clinique Happy = my Aunt Sharon
Instant coffee = my grandpa

None of these are memories I decided to attach to a scent. They just happened.

Years later, I can smell one of them and a person appears in my mind before I’ve even had time to think about why.

What scent instantly makes you remember someone?

California Vineyard 🤍

When I created this one, I was thinking about everything that comes BEFORE the wine. Rows of vines growing in the sun, green leaves, ripe grapes, and the warm agricultural landscape around them.

I wanted this scent to feel like standing in the vineyard, not opening a bottle.

and there’s one especially fun detail hidden in this bar: wine flour.

wine flour is made from the grapeskin and seeds left behind after winemaking. I added it directly to the soap, giving vineyard a tiny physical connection to the process that inspired it.

Fruity, green, and earthy. This one is my interpretation of California Wine country from the ground up.

California Redwood 🤍

I really did think… I grew up in the woods. How different could these woods possibly be?

Very.

Camping beneath the redwoods was one of my favorite experiences by exploring Northern California. The scale, the mist, the soft forest floor, the smell, the banana slugs, the enormous fire-scarred trees, it felt ancient in a way I had never experienced before.

This Redwood scent is my attempt to capture a little bit of that feeling in soap: warm, woody, spicy, and grounding
