🐱💙 Patient Highlight: Biscuits! 💙🐱

Meet Biscuits, an 11-year-old neutered male domestic shorthair who had a close call with a dangerous household plant! 🌸

Biscuits rubbed against lilies, leaving yellow pollen on the side of his face. Thankfully, his family acted quickly! They immediately contacted Pet Poison Helpline, wiped away as much pollen as possible, and brought him to our Emergency Department.

🌿 Did you know lilies are extremely toxic to cats? All parts of the lily plant—including the pollen and even the water in the vase—can cause serious kidney injury and potentially life-threatening kidney failure.

🏥 During his hospital stay, Biscuits received intravenous fluids to support his kidney function while our team closely monitored his kidney values.

Thanks to his family’s quick thinking and the diligent care of our Emergency Department team, Biscuits did not develop any kidney injury! 💙🐾

✨ A friendly reminder: Keep lilies out of homes with cats. If you suspect your cat has been exposed, contact your veterinarian or an animal poison control service immediately. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear!

We’re so happy Biscuits is doing well! ❤️

🚨🐾 PARVOVIRUS SEASON IS HERE! 🐾🚨

Canine parvovirus (Parvo) is a highly contagious, potentially life-threatening virus that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration, and symptoms can worsen quickly.

🐶 Know the warning signs:
🔹 Vomiting
🔹 Severe or bloody diarrhea
🔹 Lethargy or weakness
🔹 Loss of appetite
🔹 Dehydration

💙 Prevention is key!
✔️ Keep your puppy up to date on vaccinations.
✔️ Avoid dog parks, public areas, and places frequented by unvaccinated dogs until your puppy is fully vaccinated.
✔️ Keep your puppy away from contaminated environments.

⚠️ If your puppy is showing signs of illness, seek veterinary care immediately. Early treatment can make a critical difference. If you suspect Parvo, call ahead before arriving so our team can take precautions to protect other pets.

🍇 Grapes & raisins can be dangerous for dogs! 🐶

Even small amounts can cause serious kidney injury or acute kidney failure, and there’s no reliable way to predict which dogs will be affected.

If your dog has eaten grapes, sultanas, or raisins:
🚨 Act immediately—don’t wait for symptoms.
📞 Contact ASPCA Poison Control: 888-426-4435
🏥 Seek veterinary or emergency care as soon as possible.

Symptoms may be delayed, so waiting for your dog to become sick can allow significant kidney damage to occur.

🐸 Bufo Toad Toxicity: Know the Signs & Act Fast!

Monsoon season means increased bufo toad activity in Arizona. 🐸 These toads can release a potent toxin when licked or bitten, and symptoms such as excessive drooling, head shaking, red gums, vomiting, disorientation, seizures, and even death can occur within minutes.

Keep your pets safe:
• Keep pets indoors or closely supervised at night
• Teach a strong “leave it” command
• If contact occurs, immediately rinse your pet’s mouth with water, directing the water from the side of the mouth outward—not down the throat

🚨 Bufo toad exposure is an emergency. If your pet shows signs of toxicity, seek veterinary care immediately.

Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as bloat, is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate veterinary attention.

GDV can develop suddenly and progress rapidly. Recognizing the early warning signs can make a critical difference for your pet.

🚨 Signs to watch for include:
• Restlessness, pacing, or anxiety
• Repeated, unproductive attempts to vomit
• Excessive drooling or dry heaving
• A swollen or distended abdomen
• Excessive belching or flatulence
• Weakness, collapse, or signs of distress

If you suspect your dog may have GDV, do not wait for symptoms to worsen. Seek emergency veterinary care immediately.
