Instead of only telling your sitter what your cat needs, tell them what your cat loves. 💕

Favorite toy. Favorite game. Favorite treat. Favorite scratching spot. Favorite window. Favorite way to be greeted.

Because cat sitting isn’t just about keeping a cat fed and the litter box clean. It’s about helping your cat feel happy, comfortable, and loved while their human is away. 🐾❤️

🐾 🐱 CAT SITTER TIP #6: Petting Preferences

Your cat may have a favorite place to be pet… and a VERY firm opinion about where they do not want to be pet. 😹

Before your catsitter arrives, let them know your kitty’s “YES, PLEASE!” spots and their “NOPE!” spots.

Does your cat love:
😻 Chin scratches
😻 Cheek rubs
😻 Head scratches
😻 Back rubs

Or do they prefer to admire you from a respectful distance? 😹

And please tell your sitter if there are areas that are off-limits— anywhere that might turn a happy kitty into a spicy kitty. 🌶️🐈

This may seem like a little detail, but knowing your cat’s preferences helps your sitter interact with them on their terms, build trust, and avoid accidentally making them uncomfortable.

After all, we want every visit to end with a happy cat—not a cat plotting our demise - kidding, sort of!

🐾 🐱 CAT SITTER TIP #5: Help your sitter by providing details of what your cat’s “normal” looks like 😺

Every cat has their own little quirks and routines, and the more your catsitter knows about what’s normal for your kitty, the easier it is for them to notice when something isn’t quite right.

Do they spend most of the day napping in one particular spot? 💤
Are they usually waiting at the door when your sitter arrives—or do they prefer to make their grand appearance 20 minutes later? 😹
Is it normal for them to skip a meal occasionally, or is that completely out of character? 🧐

Little details like these can be supurr important! 💗

Your catsitter is there to provide food, fresh water, clean litter boxes, playtime, and plenty of love—but they’re also keeping an eye out for changes in behavior, appetite, bathroom habits, and overall well-being.

So before you head out, share those little quirks and routines! The more your sitter knows about what makes your cat your cat, the better they can care for them while you’re away. 🐾

🐾 Catsitter Tip #4: Don’t Forget to Mention Your Home’s Quirks! 🏠

**This weeks tip is supurr important, so please pay close attention! 🧐 **

Every home has its little quirks, and as the person who lives there, you probably know them like the back of your hand. But remember—when your catsitter arrives for their first reservation, they’re brand new to your space!

Things like:
🔑 Door handles that need to be pushed up instead of down
🔐 Locks that have to be turned a certain direction
🚪 Doors that need to be pulled firmly while locking
🗝️ Keys that work for the top lock but not the bottom

These are all real examples of things I’ve encountered while catsitting!

While I can usually figure these things out, it’s incredibly helpful to know ahead of time when something needs to be done a little differently than expected. A quick heads-up can make all the difference in ensuring your home is secured properly and your catsitter feels confident navigating your space.

The last thing anyone wants is for your sitter to lock up at the end of a visit, only to discover afterward that the key doesn’t work for both locks. 😿

Your home may be second nature to you, but a catsitter is learning it for the first time! A few extra instructions during the meet-and-greet can help make every reservation go smoothly—and give you peace of mind while you’re away! 😻

Happy Caturday! 😻 I’m taking a quick break from my catsitting tips series to provide an important availability update! 😺

As most of you know, this time of year is extremely busy. Between summer lasting several more months (unfortunately 😩) and the holiday season being upon us, many people are vacationing! Here’s what the remaining months of the year look like (as of right now).

✨ September: Some dates still available
✨ October: Limited dates remaining
✨ November: Limited dates remaining
✨ December: Some dates still available

If you’re planning (or have already planned) a trip, please reach out to me as soon as pawsible so I can get you (and your kitties) on my calendar!

✨Last reminder, the areas I cover include Tempe, Mesa (some parts), South Scottsdale, Ahwatukee, and some parts of Phoenix as well. Thank mew - as always! 😺

🐾 🐱 CAT SITTER TIP #3: Tell me about their favorite hiding spots! 👀

As every shy kitty parent knows every cat has their favorite hiding spot!

Some kitties love curling up under the bed, some disappear into a closet, and others somehow manage to squeeze themselves into a spot you didn’t even know existed! 🙈

And that’s totally okay! Hiding is often a completely normal way for cats to feel safe and comfortable. ❤️

But here’s why it’s supurr important to tell your sitter where your kitty likes to hide:

🔎 It helps us know where to look for them.
If I know that your cat’s favorite nap spot is under the guest bed, I can take a quick peak to ensure they’re okay!

🚨 It helps us recognize when something is unusual.
If your normally social kitty suddenly disappears somewhere they’ve never hidden before, that’s something I want to know about.

🏠 It helps keep them safe.
Some hiding spots may be places where your cat could accidentally get trapped, get into something they shouldn’t, or become difficult to reach.

🐾 And most importantly… it helps me get to know YOUR cat!
Knowing their favorite spots, routines, and little quirks helps me provide care that’s personalized to them.

So before you head out, tell your catsitter:

✨ Where does your cat normally hide?
✨ What are their favorite sleeping spots?
✨ Are there places they’re not supposed to get into?
✨ Is there a spot they hide when they’re scared, stressed, or not feeling well?

And if your kitty decides to spend the entire visit hiding under the bed… don’t worry! I’ll still make sure they’re checked on, accounted for, and getting the care they need.

The more your sitter knows, the better they can care for your one-of-a-kind kitty! 💗

Helping me talk about my next tip are the adorable Boo, Frazier, and Adso! 😺🐾

This week’s topic is emergencies! 🚨

Whether your trip is just a few days or a few weeks, it’s supurr important to provide your sitter with your cat’s veterinary information before you head out. Even better, provide contact information for someone you trust who can make decisions for your kitties in case an emergency arises and you’re unreachable. This is especially important for longer reservations and trips out of the country!

Of course, no one wants to think about the worst-case scenario while they’re away—but having this information readily available means your sitter won’t have to scramble to figure out what to do if something unexpected happens.

Hopefully, we’ll never need to use it, but being prepared gives everyone a little extra peace of mind while you’re away! 💕🐱

🐾 🐱 CAT SITTER TIP #1: Keep Your Sitter in the Loop! 🏡

What purrfect timing to kick off my first Helpful Things to Tell Your Catsitter tip! 😻

After more than a decade of catsitting, I’ve learned that one of the most important things I can do isn’t just keep your kitties happy and safe—it’s also keeping an eye on the safety and security of your home. 🏡🔐

Here’s a big one:

✅ If you’re expecting ANYONE to stop by while you’re away, please tell your catsitter!

As a general rule, I will never open the door if someone rings the doorbell while you’re gone. But if you’ve arranged for a friend, family member, housekeeper, maintenance person, contractor, or anyone else to come over, I need to know!

Why? Because if I arrive and notice that:
💡 A light has been left on
📦 Something seems to have been moved
🚪 A door isn’t secured
🤔 Something looks out of place

…I’m immediately going to wonder if someone has been in your home who shouldn’t have been! 🚨

And even if there’s only a small chance someone might stop by, please let your sitter know! A quick heads-up can prevent a whole lot of unnecessary worry.

Communication is key to keeping everyone safe, secure, and purrfectly content! 🐾💗
