Today is - a day to recognize the critical role these assistance animals play in enabling people with impaired vision to get around safely. We also want to send a big shoutout to the veterinary teams who help keep these dogs healthy.

We are always grateful for your donations and, in fact, we rely on them to give our animals the level of care that we do. However, recently we have noticed more and more items left in our bins that good folks think we can use, that we unfortunately cannot. If we can't use the items, we must pay to dispose of them.

Please check out the following list as a guide for what we can and cannot use at the shelter. If you are unsure, please feel free to text or call us: 715-762-0122 OR send us an email: [email protected].

Thank you for your support!!

The AVMA proudly joins the World Veterinary Association (WVA), HealthforAnimals, and colleagues from around the world in celebrating World Veterinary Day. The 2026 theme is “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

From farm to fork, veterinarians are at the frontline of ensuring that food of animal origin is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced. Their work protects consumers, supports sustainable food systems, prevents zoonotic diseases, and strengthens global health security. World Veterinary Day 2026 aims to elevate public understanding and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of sustainable and secure food systems.

TUESDAY TIDBITS: EQUINE DENTAL HEALTH 🦷

Equine dental health is not only crucial for keeping your equine companion's pearly whites healthy but also for the overall health of the animal in general.

Common dental issues such as the ones mentioned in the graphic can negatively affect the health of the teeth themselves as well as gum, gastrointestinal, and overall mouth health. Dental issues can also impact chewing and food grinding, further exacerbating digestive tract issues.

Has your horse struggled with any of these dental issues before? Let us know below ⬇️

As always, if you have questions or concerns about your horse's dental health, contact your equine veterinarian.

It's National Dog Bite Prevention Week! What is most important to note is any dog can bite: big or small, male or female, young or old. Even the cuddliest, fuzziest, sweetest pet can bite if provoked, so it's important to know how to avoid escalating risky situations and to understand when you should and should not interact with dogs.

Here are a few scenarios when you should avoid petting a dog. You can find more helpful tips at avma.org/DogBite
