I give liquid Ivermectin for heart worm preventative and recommend HeartGuard Plus chewable if you don't want to go that route- and topical sprays for ticks/flea preventative as needed (going off property, thick grass/woods during peak tick season). Better to "treat" for ticks and fleas as needed then to give your dog poisons that may not be needed and on a frequent basis.
Never give your dog a pill or shot for ticks/fleas- because once done, you cannot "take it back" should your dog develop any type of adverse reaction. And just because it was "safe" last month, doesn't mean it will be next time. And those 6 and 12 month doses are / can be lethal.
