Lil Man ACCT-A-233008 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Lil Man must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, MAY 31ST at 10AM. Should Lil Man's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Lil Man is a sweet senior gentleman with a heart full of love and years of companionship experience under his belt. After spending nearly his entire life in a home, this lovable boy is now searching for a family to spend his golden years with after being surrendered due to housing issues. His previous family described him as “a big baby” who simply wants to love and be loved, and everyone who meets him can see just how special he is.
Lil Man is the kind of dog who settles into your heart quickly. While he can be a little reserved at first, he warms up beautifully once he feels comfortable. In the yard, he enjoys leisurely sniffing adventures and taking in the world around him, but after a few minutes he begins to open up — following his handler around, leaning into pets, and soliciting affection with soft eyes and gentle tail wags. He is incredibly tolerant, easy to handle, and happy to spend time quietly by your side.
This handsome senior has lived successfully with just about everyone imaginable, including adults, children of all ages, cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and small animals. His previous owner shared that he is housebroken, crate trained, knows a long list of commands, and has wonderful manners overall. He can sometimes show signs of separation anxiety and may be protective of his toys, but they described him as a loving companion who enjoys cuddling, playing with toys, exploring outdoors, going for walks, and simply hanging out with his people. Their favorite thing about him? “The love that he shows you when you walk into the house.”
Lil Man may be older, but he still has plenty of life and love left to give. He would thrive in a home that can offer him the comfort, companionship, and stability he deserves after losing the only family he knew. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate best friend who will happily soak up your love and return it tenfold, Lil Man is waiting to meet you. Due to his length of stay, Lil Man is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per volunteer 5/25: Medium energy. Very easy. Housetrained. Treat motivated. Intelligent. Love him. Easy to take out and bring back to kennel.
Per short term foster 5/24: Lil Man continues to do great. Starting to show his personality a bit more but still mostly snoozing.
Per short term foster 5/23: Lil Man has been doing great—he's basically been hardcore sleeping since he got in my car yesterday. We've gone on a few walks, and he's eaten normally. I'd love to keep him until tomorrow or Monday morning. He seems like he's got more deep snoozing to do!
Per staff 5/21: High energy.
Per staff 5/20: Low energy. Short walk.
Per volunteer 5/18: Low energy. Really nice walk. Well mannered boy.
Per day trip 5/17: 3-4 hour day trip, walked on river trail. Energy 3/5. Amazing in the car. Very comfortable in new surroundings. Ignored other animals and wildlife in passing. Seeing people did not bother him. Perfect on leash. Snatchy with treats, but good about not getting fingers. Responded to sit and down.
Per staff 5/17: Lil Man day trip. Moved from H row to A row. When approaching kennel he had soft eyes and was not barking. Dressed and took out cold club door. Walks nicely on leash with minimal pulling. Allowed all over handling for harnessing, fi collar placement, and cape. Welcomed day trip fosters with loose tail wags.
Per volunteer 5/16: Low energy. Loose leash. Very good boy. So well behaved.
Per staff 5/16: Every time I walk through the kennels he is sitting at the front, wide eyes, barking. He takes treats very gently.
Per volunteer 5/15: Greeted me with a loose body and very calm demeanor. I very easily leashed him on the first try and he hopped right out of kennel. He likes to walk slowly and takes his time sniffing everything he can find. We met another older dog Freya and he approached her eagerly but politely. He was super tolerant when we did a drop leash meet. She came onto to him very eagerly, jumping up on him with puppy energy and he was extremely tolerant, some play back to her although it was very calm, and sometimes ignoring her. Once she left the play yard, he continued to be very calm. He enjoyed leisurely sniffing out the smells. He takes treats gently out of my hand, although he's not overly treat motivated. Walked very slowly again to get inside and no issues returning to kennel.
Per staff 5/14: Low-medium energy. Very mellow on leash. Loves to run and play. Good boy!
Per staff 5/14: Medium energy. Good boy.
Per volunteer 5/12: Lil Man is a very sweet boy and totally different from how he is in his kennel. In his kennel he sits at the kennel door and barks a bit. But the second you open his kennel door he becomes the calmest dog you'll ever meet. He walks nice and slowly, and seems like he's content to hang out on some grass and sniff. He checks in with me when I'm walking about every 20 or 30 secs and he likes to be patted. It was a very relaxed easy walk with a very sweet boy.
Per staff 5/8: Literally the best boy! Dressed him up for his day trip and he tolerated full body handling and leaned in for pets. When they dropped him back off he got so excited and wiggly to see me, also allowed full handling while removing harness. Saw kids and another dog in adoption lobby and did not pay them any mind.
Per staff 5/6:
Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel soft eyes, low tail, ears to the side. Offered a treat which he took gently.
Leash Skills: Interested in sniffing my leash at first, once he stopped sniffing he was easy to leash and came right out. Pulled mildly on leash, low tail, loose body, ears back.
Sociability: Mainly interested in sniffing around the yard, head to the ground, low tail, ears back. Would come over when called with soft eyes, ears back, mid to low tail wags. He allowed all handling with a loose body, low tail, ears to the side. After a few minutes in the yard he started to open up more, came over and solicited attention from me, soft eyes, mid tail wags, loose body, leaning into pets. He would also follow me around with low tail wags, soft eyes, loose body. He is food motivated and takes treats a little snatchy so open palm is best.
Play: Tossed around a few toys, no interest.
Dog Interaction: Met Belly, more interested in sniffing around, good greetings, disengaged on his own, tolerant of being sniffed.
Return to Kennel: Pulled mildly on the way back, low tail, head low, ears back. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily.
Color Level: Exp Gold
Per owner surrender notes 5/4: Moving to housing that doesn't allow pets. Loves to cuddle, loves pets, loves to play around, doesn't like his nails cut but will let you. Lives with adults and children, birds, cats, other dogs, and reptiles. He is housebroken, crate trained, high energy, and knows sit, stay, go, stop, and lay down. He walks great on leash. He eats Pedigree, but will eat anything. His favorite toys and treats are anything you give him. Introduction to strangers, children, cats, and dogs, are great when meeting him for the first time. Lil Man is a big baby, very lovable and great.
Lil Man was reclaimed by his owners on 9/29/25.
Per owner surrender notes 9/28/25: Surrendered by his owner of 9 years due to them no longer having time to care for him as well as personal health concerns. They stated that he lived with adults, babies, toddlers, kids, tweens, teens, cats, dogs, reptiles/amphibians, birds, and small mammals. He is mostly housebroken, fully crate trained, medium energy, pulls a little on leash, and sleeps in a dog bed. He knows his name, sit, down, lay down, no, off, stay, wait, drop it, leave it, go potty. He eats Purina One, but will eat anything and everything, he doesn't have a favorite treat. He enjoys rope toys, balls, squeaky toys, bones or other durable chew toys, stuffed toys, puzzle toys with treats inside, and Kongs. His favorite activities include exploring outdoors, playing tug-of-war, going for walks, running/jogging, napping, hanging out and cuddling with owners, playing with kids, playing with other animals, independent playtime with toys, being petted, and swimming or playing in water. They noted a few behavior concerns including separation anxiety when home alone, having accidents in the house, and being possessive of toys/items. When asked how he does with strangers, they said it depends on the situation. He is friendly with kids, cats, and other dogs. He is a little bit interested in wildlife. His perfect home would be a family who has time for him, to play with him and love him. Their favorite thing about him is the love that he shows you when you walk into the house.
MEDICAL NOTES:
Lil Man has mild to moderate dental tartar and one damaged upper canine tooth. He should receive a dental cleaning and have the canine tooth removed within the next few months to help prevent pain and future problems.
