Sometimes the most exciting opportunities take us down roads we never expected to travel!
This weekend, someone from SOUTH DAKOTA reached out to Piggyback Treats Company with an unexpected opportunity!
He processes game birds for hunting preserves, handles THOUSANDS of pheasants, and wanted to know if we could use the feet!
Naturally, I was intrigued!
When we spoke, I asked how he found us. His answer? He literally Googled who might want pheasant feet, and his search led him to Piggyback Treats!
HOW COOL IS THAT?!
Since his business simply processes birds, he’s never had a reason to save the feet. Now those otherwise unused parts can become nutritious, single-ingredient treats instead of potentially going to waste!
For years, we’ve built relationships with small farms and food producers primarily within 300 miles of Philadelphia. Local sourcing has always been an important part of our mission.
But this opportunity has me thinking BIGGER!
What if expanding our partnerships beyond our region could help us rescue even MORE valuable ingredients from the waste stream?
This relationship means more than bringing back our long-awaited pheasant feet! It opens the door to utilizing other parts of the birds, developing new products, and potentially making our pheasant treats consistently available to wholesale customers for the first time!
We’ve always worked with small batches, so this could be a GAME CHANGER!
And my favorite part? HE FOUND US because he was looking for someone who could put these unused parts to good use!
That’s exactly why Piggyback Treats exists.
A big shipment of pheasant feet is headed our way, and I couldn’t be more excited!
NOW I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
How do you feel about Piggyback Treats expanding partnerships with farms and processors across the country when it means reducing even more food waste?
Should we stay primarily regional, or embrace opportunities like this that align with our mission?
Treat Sustainably,
Piggyback Treats Company
