The Pflugerville Police Department and Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services have continued reviewing the alleged abuse of a dog captured in a video widely circulated online.

A seizure warrant was executed, and the dog was safely placed in P.A.W.S. custody on Friday, Aug. 21. City staff then learned the incident occurred nearly a week before it was reported.

P.A.W.S. staff did not observe any physical injuries to the dog while in custody. The owner was also able to provide documentation from their vet, who assessed the dog four days after the incident as part of a routine appointment and did not note any injuries.

After reviewing the available information, Municipal Court Judge Farren Sheehan issued an order on Friday, Aug. 28 to return the dog to its owner with several positive steps to support the dog's wellbeing: an anger management course, six weeks of in-person dog training and requirements to bring the dog to P.A.W.S. for a check-in every two weeks for 90 days.

Travis County prosecutors have advised PPD detectives that the available evidence in this case does not meet the threshold for criminal charges. P.A.W.S. has since filed a Class C misdemeanor complaint for Inhumane Treatment through the Pflugerville Municipal Court, and the case remains active.

What's been happening at our Animal Shelter?🐾

Last month, Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services (P.A.W.S.) closed for a day to complete repairs after unwanted critters found their way into the ceilings above our staff and cats in our care.

The City contracted a company to seal the attic and ceiling space, and replace the insulation and ceiling tiles, effectively evicting the critters and preventing re-entry.

While planning continues for the pfuture of the Animal Shelter, the City will address maintenance and safety needs as they arise.

City of Pflugerville facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in recognition of Labor Day.

Closed facilities include the Pflugerville Public Library, Pflugerville Animal Welfare Services, Pflugerville Recreation Center, Recycle Center and City offices. Trash and recycling collection will continue as usual.

City pools and splash pads will be open with the following Labor Day hours:
💦Gilleland Creek Pool: 1-8 p.m.
💦Scott Mentzer Pool: noon-7 p.m.
💦Stone Hill Splash Pad: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
💦Falcon Pointe Splash Pad: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sept. 7 is the final day of the season for City pools. Splash pads will remain open through Sept. 27.

For water issues during the closure, call the Pflugerville Police Department's nonemergency line at 512-990-6700. In an emergency, call 911.

These elusive Texas cats are excellent hunters, mostly solitary, and are often most active around dawn, dusk, and nighttime. 🌙

If you spot one, enjoy the sighting from a safe distance. Never approach, feed, or attempt to handle a bobcat.
