PYRescue.org/ We are an organization dedicated to saving and re-homing Great Pyrenees dogs, located in Peyton, Colorado. She was a Great Pyrenees puppy named Nichole.

Permanently closed.

Judy Dole and Michael Heffron operate a volunteer animal rescue group known as Great Pyrenees Rescue. It was founded by John and Linda Kryder, who became involved in saving Pyrenees after they adopted the first dog they ever owned in March of 1994. At the time they adopted her, John was 65 years young, proving any age is right to get your first dog. No one could possibly imagine the trials and tri

bulations they experienced in learning to live with such an independent and intelligent Great Pyrenees puppy. In desperation, they joined the Great Pyrenees Club of America, participated in the activities of a regional club, and, eventually, became involved in the club's rescue program. One thing led to another, and in 1996 John & Linda separated from the club and formed PYRescue. Since then they have independently and actively worked to place unwanted or abused Great Pyrenees dogs in loving, caring new homes. On the average, they rescue one or two Great Pyrenees per week, and have placed over 800 dogs to date! Judy and Michael run a top notch facility, which can be seen on our Facilities page. The Pyrs awaiting placement have a great meadow to run and play in, comfy beds, and an air conditioned and heated kennel! All funding for their efforts is paid from tax deductible donations or from the Kryder's own pockets, including travel costs, Vet bills, etc. On the average, the Kryder's have been spending about $5000/year of their funds in addition to donations. They are accepted members of the Great Pyrenees Club of America and are the Great Pyrenees rescue agents for All Breed Rescue Network, Inc. of Denver, Colorado. Please think about sponsoring a Pyr we currently are sheltering, or if you'd like to make a deduction to help these wonderful animals, please contact us.

Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅ‚๐ŸŽ†๐ŸŽ‡
This year 12 dogs found their forever home! โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

As this year comes to a close, we are closing a chapter that began 31 years ago. Saying goodbye to PYRescue has been incredibly emotional, but we are so proud of the countless lives saved, the second chances given, and the love shared along the way.
None of this would have been possible without our volunteers, fosters, adopters, donors, and supporters. Because of you, thousands of dogs found safety and forever homes. While our doors have closed, the impact and memories will live on in every life touched.
Thank you for 31 years of compassion, dedication, and believing in the dogs who needed it most. โค๏ธ

I just realized I forgot to post our last 2 dogs that were adopted before we closed. Obi had TPLO surgery in June and one of our volunteers fostered him while he recovered, Obi also suffered from lupus at the same time. Being fostered in a home was the best thing for Obi, he not only recovered completely his lupus has cleared up. Because he was already loved by his foster parent it was an easy choice for her to foster fail. Obi was officially adopted in October.

Gr**go was also adopted by one of our volunteers and shares his home with another PYRescue alumni, his โ€œsisterโ€ was one of our Bakerโ€™s dozen pups born at PYRescue in 2021. Gr**go was officially adopted in December.

Message from Judy to everyone:โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Hey everyone! I wish I had time to reply to each one of you, but Im super busy moving & getting things in order, listing the property, etc. But I want you ALL to know that it wasn't just US who saved all these Pyrs (and other LGD breeds). It ultimately was YOU who gave them their best lives ever. I am so sad to have to close up shop, leave our little piece of paradise in Peyton, but, for a variety of reasons, we both had to retire. I believe we were the oldest non-stop running non-profit Pyrenees rescue in the country, since June 1994 (31.5 years!), and we always strived to also be the best, so I feel like we are leaving a legacy. And being the only Pyr/lgd rescue in a multistate area, I know we will be leaving a void here. Please- continue to adopt Pyrs, not support breeding, as there are thousands of really sweet Pyrs needing rescue every day. I worry and pray for every single one of them. And thank you ALL- my dedicated volunteers, our many donors, our adopters and all the rescuers, transporters, other rescues, vets, our behaviorist Steve and everyone else who helped us rescue, treat, fix, repair, rehome & save these quirky and wonderful Angels with Fur. It truly takes a village...and if you are reading this, you are likely part of that village. My sign in the kennel, which I read every day (and kept):
You cannot save the world. But you ARE the world to the ones you save.

Bless all of you, Merry Christmas!- judy

PYRescue is officially closed ๐Ÿ˜ข, yesterday our last 4 dogs were moved to National Mill Dog Rescue. We are beyond grateful for Mill Dog for accepting our dogs. It was a sad day but we know they are safe and will be well cared for, a lot of our regular volunteers will continue at Mill Dog to work with our dogs. Please keep the dogs in your thoughts that they will find their forever home soon. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
