🦷✨ Before ➡️ After: Look at that smile transformation! ✨🦷

Honey came in for a dental cleaning and the difference is incredible! While cleaner teeth definitely look better, the biggest benefit of a professional dental cleaning goes far beyond appearance.

Dental disease is one of the most common conditions we see in pets, and tartar buildup can lead to:

🐾 Future veterinary professionals in training! 🩺✨

This past Saturday, we had the opportunity to host a group of Boy Scouts as they worked toward earning their Veterinary Medicine Merit Badge! 🎉

The scouts got an inside look at what a day in veterinary medicine can look like; from observing patient care to diving into the many different paths within the veterinary profession.

They also got to use critical thinking, investigative skills and some teamwork as they solved a mystery patient case where they:
🔎 Collected a patient history
🩺 Documented physical exam findings
🧪 Explored diagnostic options
🩻 Reviewed real radiographs
💡 Found a diagnosis and thought of a treatment plan

The scouts stepped into the role of veterinary professionals and experienced firsthand how we care for animals every day. We had such a fun time sharing our passion for vet med and hope we inspired a few future veterinary professionals along the way 💙🐶🐱

Patient Case Spotlight! 🩺

When Sierra came to Wisconsin from a southern rescue, nobody knew she was already carrying a disease that would soon change her life.

🐾 While at the rescue, Sierra missed just ONE dose of heartworm prevention. Unfortunately, that was all it took and because heartworm disease has a long-life cycle, it can take about 6 months before dogs test positive, meaning Sierra had already found her loving forever home before anyone realized she was infected 🤕

Thankfully, Sierra’s story has a happy ending! After undergoing heartworm treatment with us, she is now doing great and back to enjoying life with her family ❤️

But her journey is also an important reminder about why prevention matters. Heartworm treatment can be physically demanding on pets and emotionally and financially stressful for owners 🩻 During treatment, dogs often require strict activity restriction, multiple medications, injections, repeat testing, and close monitoring 🔬 While treatment can save lives, prevention is significantly safer, easier, and less expensive.

Sierra’s mom asked us to share her story to help spread awareness and the importance of year-round prevention. If you have questions or need help finding the best option for your pet, we are always here to help ❤️🐾
