Amiable Sporthorse Amy Savage Balance + Engagement + Harmony
Creating harmonious horses and riders through Classical Foundation Training. Amy decided to start Amiable Sporthorse.

Trainer Amy Savage Flores grew up riding at Morning Star Farm in Novato, Ca. When she was 13 years old, she began riding with Clare Long of Clarity Dressage in Petaluma, Ca. Amy quickly fell in love with the art of Dressage, and became Clare's working student and eventually her assistant. In 2012, Clare and Amy created Clarity Performance Horse Sales, working with and selling horses of all ages (youngsters to schoolmasters), breeds (Warmbloods, Friesians, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Morgans, Arabians, Drafts, Ponies), and disciplines (Dressage, Jumping, and Western). Amy's gift for teaching horse care and horseback riding was very apparent and she had an obvious love for working with kids. She received certification through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association). As her business grew, she began adding adult students as well. Amiable Sporthorse acquired a few wonderful lesson horses and established a location on the west side of Petaluma off Bodega Ave. Amy is currently seeking students from Petaluma, Novato, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Sonoma, Napa, San Rafael, Mill Valley, San Francisco, and the North Bay region. Amy has been continuing her education by attending clinics with Art2Ride Trainer Karen Loshbaugh. (www.art2ride.com) Amy has gained invaluable information from Art2Ride. Understanding how Classical Foundation Training can improve a horse is so exciting. Dressage is for everyone and every horse! Amy's deep love for horses is apparent in her teaching and training. She is very passionate about helping her students learn proper horse care and balanced riding. Amy's dream and goal is to help riders of all riding disciplines use Classical Foundation Training to help strengthen and develop their horse's topline so that the horse can live a pain-free, successful life. Dressage is foundational training and it is for everyone!

Learning to slow down. This cute old ranch horse has been sitting for many years and I have been helping to get him started again. We are working on pausing and thinking through things. Having a conversation and learning to soften to the reins rather than resist.

I love how Equine Hanna Somatics®️helps horses feel better and helps us understand what sort of pain/restrictions horses are holding. I find this gift such a valuable tool when I am working with a horse that I don’t know at all. The horse pictured is a super sweet rescue gelding and we really don’t know his history. He travels very forward and super disconnected from his back. When I worked with him, he was very reactive and protective of his back and ribcage. I would just touch his withers and he started twitching and shaking repeatedly like he was trying to shake off flies. He was very receptive of the work with his front limbs and neck so that is what we focused on. This photo shows how tight his shoulders and chest were in the before picture. In the after picture, you can see a wider stance and plump, juicy muscles in his chest and shoulders.

I look forward to working with this boy some more and helping him find more comfort in his body.

I couldn’t wait to help this gelding! His chest was obviously very tight and contracted. This is just one session of Equine Hanna Somatics®️. This 6 year old, QH gelding is a barrel racer. I look forward to hearing from his owner about how he is moving now.

Rehab success! This 21 year old Belgian Warmblood mare suffered tendon tears in bilateral front legs. She has been fully rehabbed and doing well, but the owner noticed that she still seemed “clunky” in her trot. After our first Equine Hanna Somatics®️ session, the owner was astounded by how the mare felt during their ride. She reported that the “clunkiness” in the trot was gone! Wow! I’m so excited for them!

We decided to do a second EHS session the following week. This mare loved to stand in a parked out position with front legs way out in front and hind legs way behind her. In these photos, you can see how much more comfortably she is standing underneath herself. All of her muscles look smoother. EHS seems to have been the finishing touch they needed for this rehab.

Wishing everyone a beautiful holiday with those you love! I am grateful beyond words for my horses and the opportunities I have been given to have them in my life. Such a gift. I am grateful for all of the kind-hearted people in my life. You all make the world a better place. I am grateful that my son gets to have these precious moments with horses. May horses always touch his soul and your’s. ❤️🐴

I had the honor of working with this sweet giant Warmblood gelding yesterday. He was so receptive to the Equine Hanna Somatics®️ movements even with lots of commotion going on in the barn. He had lots of releases and moments of processing.

Look how round and plump his haunches became and how his ribcage and back have expanded and inflated. His chest and shoulder are softer.

I truly didn’t think anyone would ever ride this sensitive guy. He has come so far! My client bought him several years ago and he was underweight, very little muscle and very reactive. He would buck, rear, spook and run. Ears back and try to bite the tack. He would pull back when tied or crosstied.

We started from the ground up with this guy. Treated his ulcers, went slow to earn his trust, regular chiropractic and massage, liberty work, put shoes on him all around. We were patient and allowed him to have a voice showing us when he was ready for each step. His owner accepted the possibility that he may never be ridden but wanted him to be healthy and happy. We gave him the opportunity to learn how to self-regulate. The trust he has built with his owner is so beautiful!

Earlier this year, although he had made leaps and bounds in progress, he was still bucking with the saddle on. We continued supporting him and then everything suddenly clicked for him. He stopped bucking and his owner has been able to ride him at the walk and a little bit of trot! It really is unbelievable! What a journey! We don’t know what the future holds, but we continue to honor what this guy needs and allow him to tell us what he is ready for and when. He has impressed us with his ability to relax and regulate. So beyond proud! ❤️🦄

Remembering neutral posture. This sweet mare was a broodmare for many years of her life. She started back into work about a year ago. This was her first Equine Hanna Somatics®️session. She was so gentle and obviously loved and appreciated the session. Lots of licks and chews, big breathes and going into sleepy mode. She was not ready to do all of the movements with her hind legs, but as we went she would offer her back legs at random. She would do one or two movements and then was done with that. I look forward to seeing how she feels in the next session. I love how EHS works WITH the horse. We help them remember their natural ability to release contracted muscles by using the voluntary motor cortex of their brain bringing them back to neutral resting muscle tonus.

Unbelievably proud of these two! What a long, rollercoaster ride! When we first started working together 4ish years ago, this horse could not balance or go forward. He was so disconnected. It was exhausting to ride him because he was so stuck. On top of that, he had very dangerous behaviors that showed up on the ground. We spent years addressing his physical and mental wellness. We treated him for ulcers, did tons of ground work, chiropractic, massage, discovered he has a cataract in one of his eyes, etc. His owner was committed and learned lots of patience as I guided them. She has built an incredible bond of trust with him and we are seeing the fruits. He is now super forward, easy to steer, so much more balanced and strong. We still have a ways to go, but wow! Look how far we have come! What an honor to support you both! ❤️
