From Saturday Morning Markets to a Mission of Love
Goody Custom Pet Collars didn't start with a grand business plan; it started with a family needing a solution. When we moved to Texarkana, Arkansas, our boys, Luke and Justin, struggled to find jobs in a new town. Instead of waiting for opportunity to knock, we decided to build our own.
What began as a way for the boys to earn spending money quickly became a crash course in entrepreneurship. Every Saturday, rain or shine, the alarm went off at 5 AM. We’d head to the local farmers market, set up the booth, and prepare for the day. Luke and I worked the crowds, taking orders and meeting all the local dogs, while Justin managed the heavy lifting of tearing down at the end of a long day.
During the week, our home turned into a workshop. While everyone learned the basics of every design, each of us found a specialty weave we loved best. The boys didn't just learn to craft; they learned inventory management, accounting, and the art of customer service. It was incredibly rewarding to watch them grow into capable young businessmen.
Recently, our family made another big move to Southeast Missouri. Luke and Justin have taken the skills they learned and moved on to their own careers and adventures. But as we settled into our new small-town home, my husband, Paul, and I realized we weren't ready to let go!
We fell in love with the craft and the connections we make with pet owners. Today, Paul and I are continuing the Goody tradition, but with a renewed mission. We are now crafting with a bigger purpose: to support our passions.
A portion of our work supports my beloved charity, Making a Difference with Small Miracles Orphans Home Ministries, which operates an orphanage, a school, and a widows' outreach in Uganda. https://smallmiraclesorphanshome.org/home/ Paul’s goal is to grow the business enough to financially support local dog rescues and foster programs.
