Update: we just received word that Poppell is getting adopted!! Thanks everyone who shared and got the news out. While Poppell’s story is a good ending, there are still many dogs and cats at Animal Control under the same risk who are still waiting for their forever home. If this story moved you, please consider adopting a pet!

Original post:
Back in May we had a stray turned into us: a sweet older boy we started calling “Poppell” due to where he was found. Despite making posts about him in the lost and found pages, no one ever came forward to claim him and we unfortunately had to turn him over to Animal Control where he’s been ever since.

And his time is quickly running out. Despite being a very sweet and good boy that gets along with people and other dogs (from what we’ve been told by his time at Animal Control), Animal Control is full to the brim and because of his age he is high up on the euthanasia list.

Poppell desperately needs someone to adopt or foster him so that he can live out the rest of his golden years being loved and cared for. In an effort to help facilitate this, Dr. Owens is willing to fully vet and neuter him free of charge if we can find him a home or a foster to buy him time.

We ask our community of animal lovers to please share this far and wide in an effort to find this good boy a home. Anyone who is interested should contact us at 850-584-5621 or Taylor County Animal Control at 850-838-3525.

Even if Poppell is not the right match for your family, there are dozens of dogs and cats at Animal Control who are waiting for the forever home! We as a community have long said we care about animals and their welfare. All it takes is a few individuals to step up and consider adopting or fostering to completely change a pet’s life.

Does anyone recognize this handsome old man? He was found on Paul Poppell Rd on Monday and brought to us to be scanned for a microchip. He is very sweet, well mannered, but has no microchip or collar. Please share this post widely in an attempt to find his owner because someone has to be missing him. If no one claims him soon, he will be turned over to animal control.

Does anyone recognize this sweet boy? He has shown up in our Clinic parking lot yesterday afternoon and this morning. We were finally able to get our hands on him to keep him from getting hit on Jefferson St. He is very sweet, friendly but a little shy. No microchip or collar. Animal control has been contacted to pick him up but we want to get the word out in case his owner is looking for him.

****UPDATE: Owner has been located****

Does anyone recognize this sweet little girl? She was found yesterday in Steinhatchee by a Good Samaritan, laying on the Beach Rd in-between Sugerhill Rd and Roys. The Good Samaritan brought her to us to be evaluated. She appears to have some evidence of trauma but is otherwise healthy and improving. She had no collar, tag, or microchip.

We’re calling her Little Bit currently, and she is estimated to be a 1 year old terrier mix, roughly 10lbs. She appears to have been groomed fairly recently, so someone must be missing this baby! Please share this widely, especially around the Steinhatchee area so that we can reconnect her with her owner.

She is currently being cared for at Owens Animal Hospital. Anyone with any information or proof of owner can call us at 850-584-5621.
