🌿 Fern 🌿
Fern is the sweetest girl who sure loves giving our staff hugs! She's happiest when she's as close as possible to her favorite people. This lovely girl spent a good chunk of time in a foster home before coming back to the shelter, this is what her foster family had to say about her:
"Fern is a 2-and-a-half-year-old, 50-pound American Pit Bull mix with a huge heart, endless affection, and a playful, energetic spirit. She is very loved, but we want better for her than being separated from smaller pets due to other pet personality conflicts.
Fern can be a little shy at first and takes time to feel comfortable around new people and animals, but once she trusts you, she is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and full of personality. She loves toys, belly rubs, zoomies, and showing off how smart she is. She's very food motivated, pattern-driven, and easily trainable. She knows “sit,” “lay down,” “leave it,” “give paw,” and is crate trained with the cue “in the box.” Most of the time, “lay down” — or a downward closed-hand signal — turns into her asking for belly rubs.
She rides wonderfully in the car and will sit in the front or back seat like a little human passenger. She can also learn yard boundaries once properly trained. Fern is fully potty trained and crate trained.
Fern is energetic and loves to zoom, so she would do best with someone who can give her structure, exercise, and continued training. She does pull on leash, so a harness is recommended for walks. She would thrive in a home where she can be the main focus. We don't recommend she live with cats or smaller dogs and would likely do best as a solo pet or with a larger, more dominant dog.
We love Fern very much and want to find her a more suitable home where she can be included, cherished, and given the freedom and attention she deserves."
Fern is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. You can visit her at the shelter Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
