⚠️ Weather Update: Closed Today until Friday, October 16.

Due to the storm and loss of power, we are still closed, but plan to reopen on October 16 at 8am.

Storm Closure Update

Due to the ongoing storm and power outage, our hospital will be closing today at 12 PM to prioritize the safety of our team and the pets in our care.

We will assess hospital conditions and power availability tomorrow morning. If power is restored, we plan to reopen at 10 AM.

🍄 Better Safe Than Sorry🐾

When Lucy's family suspected she may have eaten a mushroom, they decided to play it safe and brought her to VERC for evaluation.

Our team induced vomiting to help remove any potentially ingested material, ran bloodwork to check her values, and provided fluids and anti-nausea medication for supportive care.

Thankfully, Lucy was stable and able to head home with her family for continued monitoring. ❤️ 🐶 🏡

⚠️ Pet Parent Reminder: Wild mushrooms can be difficult to identify, and some varieties can be toxic to pets. If you suspect your pet may have ingested a mushroom, don't wait for symptoms to appear. When it comes to potential toxins, it's always better to be safe than sorry!

🐾 Meet Lola! 🐶

Sweet Lola came to our hospital after being bitten by a cottonmouth snake🐍 . Snake bites can be serious and cause significant swelling, pain, tissue damage, weakness, difficulty breathing, and seizures in severe cases, so quick veterinary attention is extremely important.

🩺 Lola was treated with antivenom, IV fluids, and pain medications, along with bloodwork to monitor her condition. We kept her with us overnight so our team could closely monitor her and make sure she continued to improve.

Thankfully, Lola was looking much better the next day and was able to go home to continue her recovery! 🥰

🚨 If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, seek immediate veterinary care. ❌Do not attempt to suck out the venom, apply ice, or a tourniquet. Stay calm, carry your pet to reduce venom spread, and get to the nearest veterinary hospital.

🐶 Odin's Chocolate Close Call 🍫

Meet Odin, a 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who found himself in a little of trouble after getting into some chocolate-covered almonds. Luckily, Odin's owners didn't wait to see what would happen, they brought him straight to VERC for help.

After assessing Odin, our doctor administered apomorphine to induce vomiting 🤢, and thankfully, Odin successfully brought up the chocolate! After making sure he was doing well, Odin was good to go home with his family. ❤️

If you dog eats chocolate, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Depending on the type and amount of chocolate eaten, ingestion can lead to symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures, and potentially life-threatening complications. The sooner your pet is evaluated, the more treatment options your veterinarian may have to prevent serious toxicity.

We are so happy this sweet boy had a happy ending! 🐶❤️
