Our feline friends have a special way of making themselves at home in our hearts—and sometimes in our laps, our beds, and even our favorite chairs. 😹💕

Happy Cat Month is a great reminder that keeping our cats healthy and happy means more than just plenty of treats and snuggles (although those are definitely important!). Did you know that a cat's purr can heal? the sound and vibrations can help reduce stress and lower blood pressure.

Why do we do heartworm test to check for heartworm disease yearly?

While monthly heartworm prevention is so important, not all prevention is 100% effective in preventing an infection. There is always a 1% chance your pet can still get them, it's unlikely but not impossible.
We do a routine check to make sure nothing has slipped through the cracks!

With a busy life schedule, as human owners we may have a time or two where we have forgotten, or haven't been as compliant in giving heartworm prevention. This would be another way our babies could get infected.

In doing these yearly tests at a wellness visit it helps us identify the infection early and fast!! Don't forget to ask about your pets's yearly heartworm check when you schedule your next yearly visit!

This sweet boy was found near liberty park close to I 10. We are thinking he's closed to a year old and he does not have a microchip. Please help and share this out to find his home! 💙

🔬What are we looking at?

This is an ear cytology, which is a sample from inside a dog’s ear viewed under a microscope. That little dark purple, peanut-shaped organism is yeast..a common cause of ear infections in dogs!

🐾 Signs of an ear infection include:
• Head shaking
• Scratching at the ears
• Redness or swelling
• Odor or discharge
• Sensitive or painful ears

Yeast normally lives on a dog’s skin, but if it grows too much, it can cause a very itchy, uncomfortable infection. Cytology helps your vet see if yeast, bacteria, or both are present so they can choose the right treatment.

If your dog is shaking or scratching their ears, it’s time for a vet visit!
