Los Chilaquiles is joining us this year to provide a prize for the Halloween Dog Photo Contest. They are known for two things. Great food and incredible hospitality. Restaurant owners Martha and Victor run a family business that began a few years ago after the previous owners, who are also family members, decided to retire. The restaurant got a new name, a new menu, and an update to the interior and exterior, truly making the place their own.

Recently, Martha completed a leadership program through the Pendleton Chamber. Los Chilaquiles was also awarded this year a $20,000 grant from the Pendleton Development Commission, which the family has used to launch their new affordable to-go lunch menu. The new menu features a hearty daily burrito or dish that is perfect for the hungry worker or student in a hurry.

The menu is filled with familiar dishes like enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas. Their specialty is chilaquiles, a tasty dish of corn chips simmered in a zesty sauce and topped with a favorite protein, queso, and cilantro. Visit the team at 238 SW Dorion Ave. Or go to their page to learn more.

Morningstar Blends joined us for our 2nd annual Halloween Dog Photo Contest last year and they're back this year with another wonderful prize for one of the winners.

Maya Bamer began her journey towards owning her own tea shop featuring handcrafted organic herbs practically from birth in Northern Oregon. It was motherhood that inspired her to nurture her family with truly natural approaches to food and well-being. This eventually led to a total of over four decades of forest wisdom that results in a cup of tea or an herbal blend that beautifully benefits from her education in Evolutionary Herbalism and soil sustainability.

This year Morningstar Blends moved to a bigger space on Main Street and was the recipient of a $20,000 grant by the Pendleton Development Commission. The shop is not only a local favorite for teas, herbs, tinctures, spices, books, and cool tea related gifts, professional healers come from all over the PNW to explore her selections. The shop has also collaborated with us for our Tea and Tails events, celebrating co-regulation with dogs.

Visit Morningstar Blends at 347 S Main St. You can also find the shop online at https://www.morningstarblends.com/

When we began our Halloween Dog Photo Contest 3 years ago, Unity Collectibles was one of the first businesses to enthusiastically partner with us on judging the winners and providing prizes. This year Josh and Jennifer are teaming up with us again and we're thrilled.

We first met the owners of this eclectic and welcoming shop before they moved to Pendleton at a vinyl record swap (yes, we love analog!). Unity doesn't just sell new and used records! They have beautiful and creative jewelry, games, videos, books, and items from several decades that will delight and/or invoke a whole lot of curiosity.

Unity also is deeply involved in the Pendleton community by hosting a monthly Mystical Market that supports emerging crafty businesses in the area. Local DJ's are also invited to spin on a rotating basis and Unity functions as a safe space for those seeking a place to be themselves.

Visit Unity Collectibles at 237 S. Main Street. You can also find them online at: https://beacons.ai/unitycollectibles

Sometimes obedience training gets in the way of a beautiful moment together. Here my my friend Lexi explores at a local Pendleton park. She chewed on a leaf, sniffed multiple areas, and looked at whatever intrigued her without my directing her.

By letting your dog explore, you can "tune in" to what they find interesting & use that to understand your dog more.

We began our Halloween photo contest three years ago as a way to connect to dog lovers within the Pendleton business community and offer something that celebrates the uniqueness of every dog. We are grateful to every business who has sponsored prizes and everyone who has submitted their precious dog photos over the years.

This week we honor the businesses who have joined us for this 3rd annual event. Today we feature Herbal By Nature, who is graciously providing the location for winners to pick up their prizes this year.

Mariha is the owner of Herbal by Nature and founded her business in 2023, as a single mom who began with a passion for natural soaps and products. She is a certified soap maker who recently relocated to a larger space on Main Street.

Mariha believes what goes on the body is as important as what goes in it. Her soaps come from her own recipes that use organic ingredients like oils, butters, and clays.

Pendleton shoppers have received Mariha's shop with glowing reviews including this one:
"My family has tried several products from Herbal By Nature, and weโ€™ve loved every one of them!"

Please visit Herbal by Nature at 421 S. Main St. If you can't make it in person you can also order online at https://herbalbynaturesoaps.com/

Our contest is on until October 30th. Register here: https://www.bluemountaincanine.org/events/halloweencontest

Congratulations to our friends at Stirrup Hope for winning a generous award for their amazing theraputic horse riding program. We are so proud of Morgan and all the volunteers for helping children.

A huge congratulations to the nonprofit winner of last night's 100 Women Who Care 2026 Fall Event: StirrUp Hope Therapeutic Riding! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿด

StirrUp Hope Therapeutic Riding provides adaptive equine recreation and activities for individuals with special needs. Many participants are children, but the organization also serves adults.

Thanks to the generous donations of our new and existing members, we raised $6,100! These funds will help provide student scholarships, cover program expenses, and support the high-quality care of their very deserving equine therapists. Many students receive some form of subsidy, and StirrUp Hope is passionate about ensuring its classes remain accessible, regardless of a student's ability to pay.

We're proud to support such a wonderful organization that's changing lives, building confidence, and creating meaningful connections throughout our community. Congratulations, StirrUp Hope! ๐ŸŽŠ

White Cane Safety Day is October 15. The Oregon Department of Transportation wants to bring special attention to this topic this week, but itโ€™s also a good reminder every day. When you see pedestrians with white canes or guide dogs, always give them the right-of-way, stop and wait while they cross all lanes, and be patient, so we can all get there safely.
