Dr. Casey Skowron had the pleasure of showing Ohio State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari how to collect a urine sample from a champion sheep as part of routine performance-enhancing drug testing at the Wood County Fair. These screenings help ensure a fair and level playing field while promoting the health and welfare of our exhibition animals.
The third day of the Wood County Fair is in the books!
One of the biggest highlights of the day was serving lunch to our seniors during Senior Day at the fair. It was a privilege to spend time with so many familiar faces, share a few laughs, and help recognize the generations who built and continue to strengthen our Wood County communities. Thank you to everyone who helped prepare and serve the meal—and to all the seniors who joined us!
I was also excited to cheer on the young people who have taught me so much over the years—and continue to teach me—about 4-H, FFA, agriculture, and the tremendous work that goes into raising and showing livestock.
Fair week is always full of new experiences. Today’s included helping collect a urine sample from a champion sheep, as required by the state to test for performance-enhancing drugs. Let’s just say public service takes you to some unexpected places—and the sheep was not impressed by the government paperwork.
I also made a new friend at the fair—and she definitely has the sharper profile.
Meet Savanah, a beautiful red-tailed hawk! I had the incredible opportunity to hold her and learn more about these remarkable birds. She was calm, confident, and clearly ready for her close-up. I, on the other hand, was quietly hoping she had already eaten lunch.
A big thank-you to The Raptor Project for this unforgettable opportunity and for sharing these incredible birds with our community.
Just another day at the Wood County Fair—you never know who, or what, you’ll meet!
