The New World screwworm fly had been eradicated in the U.S., but has recently resurfaced. 🪰

With multiple confirmed cases in South Texas, here's what you need to know about the emerging threat:

🩹 Unlike most fly larvae, New World screwworm maggots feed on living tissue, causing severe wounds and tissue destruction that could lead to death if left untreated.

🐄 The parasite can infect any warm-blooded animal but is more common in cattle, swine, horses, small ruminants and dogs.

🔎 Even small wounds can put animals at risk. Pet and livestock owners should watch for warning signs like maggots, foul-smelling wounds, swelling, pain, avoiding food and water and withdrawing from the herd or other animals.

It’s not everyday we get to see snow here in Alabama so first we would love to run through the snow for 30 minutes, and then spend the rest of the day curled on the couch near the fire.

How precious are these two boys, Biggy and Smalls? They are both looking for a home they can call their forever home, or even a temporary foster home until that time arrives. They are up-to-date on all vaccines and preventions, and they are castrated. They both love to play and cuddle. Under 50 lbs, so holding them like a baby shouldn’t be that hard 🙂. Biggy and Smalls had a bit of a traumatic start to life and would love nothing more than a place to call home. Please reach out to us to schedule a meet and greet.
