Good morning everyone! We hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!

A reminder that while we are off this week, we are still answering the phones from 7 AM to 4 PM, are available via email, and you can still schedule appointments online. Just give us a call at 205-840-3612 or visit us at our website!

Also, big shout out to the team from Cahaba Spay Neuter that is on the island of St. Maarten this week assisting with a spay neuter project! Dr. Long, our vet tech Jessica, and Laryn, one of our vet assistants, flew out a few days ago and began work today on spaying and neutering pet and community dogs and cats on the island.

Happy Friday everyone! We are finishing up another successful week in the clinic!

We've attached our weekly impact graphic and as you can see, we are continuing to do some great things! We also seen a huge uptick in wellness, both for our afternoon slots and for our morning drop off wellness.

Couple of things from us as we head into our off week:

1) We will be closed this upcoming week, but you can still do all the things you need to schedule an appointment. We will be answering our phones during normal business hours, we will be monitoring our [email protected] email, and you can go to our website www.cahabaspayneuter.com and check out our pricing, book an appointment, or see what services we offer.

2) We want to also highlight that while we will be off this week, we do have a cool staff shout out! Dr. Long and two of our staff members will be heading to the island of St. Maarten for a week long spay and neuter project! This is a great project that Dr. Long and multiple current staff members have been involved in over the past few years. There are so many needs here locally, but when the opportunity presents itself to make an impact abroad, we are thankful we have staff willing to expand that reach to areas that so desperately need those services. We will take a few days next week to highlight them, their journey, and the impact they are having overseas!

We hope that you and your pets stay safe and weather aware as hurricane Isaias approaches. Keep your pets inside, watch a good movie or some football, and be safe! We will see you all next week with some updates from St. Maarten!

Hello and happy Monday everyone!

First, we want to highlight that October is National Feral Cat month! Feral and community cats are a vital part of our local area and it is important to ensure they are well taken care of, particularly through the spaying and neutering of them. A great deal goes into trapping and caring for these cats and appreciate everyone who spends their time caring for, trapping, and working with the feral cats in our community!

Also, October is National Women's Small Business Month! We want to highlight Dr. June Long for her vision and work towards making Cahaba Spay Neuter possible. With over 4,500 surgeries completed year to date, our impact on our local rescue, shelter, client, and feral/community animals has been extraordinary. Her leadership is invaluable to our continued success and we appreciate her and all of the other women small business owners out there!

It's Friday! We've had another successful week at Cahaba Spay Neuter and have a lot of info coming your way! Plus our final staff shoutout!

Let's dive in!

First, let's highlight the impact this week! 171 surgeries! Another great week that also included a foreign body removal, multiple umbilical hernia repairs, and A LOT of retained baby teeth pulled. We will spotlight some of our other elective procedures like these next week, so be on the lookout for more information on the other surgical services we provide beyond spay and neuter for your pets.

Also, our final staff shoutout today goes to our clinic manager, Henry!

Henry handles all of our social media, all of the back office business dealings, client and rescue relationships, scheduling, and so many other things! He is all over the clinic each day ensuring that things are going smoothly and that all of the details for each surgery day are communicated and taken care of. Most importantly, he keeps our snack stash stocked and orders lunch for staff regularly.

Henry brings the energy each day (literally...he buys staff energy drinks every week) and loves being around all of the animals! He has a soft spot for tiny dogs, so you may or may not see him taking some action shots with your Yorkie or Shih Tzu!

You will see him most mornings and afternoons at intake or discharge, so say hello the next time you're here!

Cahaba Spay Neuter has a phenomenal staff and we can't say enough about what each person means to our team. There are so many things that are required each day from our staff to ensure that your animals receive the best care. We are appreciative of our staff's work and love highlighting the ways they make Cahaba Spay Neuter a special place!

Finally, great news for Cahaba Spay Neuter! We will be expanding our current wellness offerings to include drop off wellness! Currently, we have only offered afternoon wellness appointments. We will now be expanding our services, allowing clients to drop their pets off in the morning for wellness and come back at afternoon pickup to get your pet!

This is a great extension of our services to offer individuals with work schedules that may not allow for a scheduled afternoon appointment. Happy Thursday! It's almost the weekend, but before we get there we've got one staff highlight today and one tomorrow!

Today we want to highlight our vet assistant Laryn!

Laryn is another one of our employees that wears many different hats. She started as a receptionist only and now primarily works in the surgery suite. You'll always see her at intake in the morning and discharge in the afternoon. She helps verify everything for check in and check out and does a great job working with our clients.

Laryn also manages the recovery mat like a pro! She does a number of things to ensure your animals recover properly post surgery. From nail trims, to providing nutrical for quick calories during wake up, to monitoring recovery temperatures, microchip and flea/tick treatment, moving of patients after recovery, etc. She also handles instrument sterilization and surgical packs, some kennel cleaning, and a lot of other things that you might not see that are essential to what we do.

We appreciate Laryn and all that she does, so say hello to her at intake or discharge!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

It's another staff shoutout today and we are highlighting one of our veterinary assistant, Diana.

Diana is a valuable member of our team and our steady hand in the surgery suite! She monitors animals while they are undergoing their surgery and is constantly moving back and forth between tables to ensure that each animal is doing well in surgery.

She helps all of the cats get their pre-surgery exams each morning. She makes sure our surgery equipment is prepped and ready for the day, then she spends the day getting patients ready for surgery and closely monitoring them while they’re under anesthesia. She’s very organized and keeps everything clean and tidy so we can work efficiently to care for our patients. Her hard work ensures that our patients receive excellent care while minimizing their time under anesthesia.

We appreciate everything she does for our clinic and our patients!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Here we go with another staff highlight! This time we highlight the youngest member of the team, Kinsley!

Kinsley comes in after school each day and does countless tasks at Cahaba Spay Neuter. She prints and preps every single travel card that goes with each animal. She will make surgical packs, handle laundry, discharge animals in the afternoon, clean bathrooms and mop floors, clean kennels, scrub instruments, check on animals, and a variety of other tasks that ensure that we can provide excellent care to your pets.

She's an absolute pleasure to be around and is always smiling! Her personality is infectious and she always provides a burst of energy and happiness in the afternoon at the end of our surgery day. Her work ethic is as good as it gets and we appreciate all that she does in our clinic!

If you stop by in the afternoon to pick up your pet and she's helping with discharge, say hello to Kinsley!

Happy Monday everyone!

Couple of things from us at Cahaba Spay Neuter today:

First off, today is World Rabies Day! It's a great day to recognize the efforts that so many undertake to try and prevent the spread of rabies.

This year, our clinic has administered over 3,000 rabies vaccines! This is such a vital part of our job and there are so many clinics and hospitals that work to ensure the safety of the pets, ferals, strays, community animals, shelter, and rescue animals that we all see. If you have not gotten your dog or cat their rabies vaccine, please make sure they are up to date as soon as possible. This is a critical piece of the puzzle for animal welfare and we are so happy we can be part of that solution!

Secondly, we've got another staff highlight this week! We want to highlight the newest member of our team, Baylee! Baylee is our new kennel technician and she really does the dirty work. From laundry to cleaning kennels to making surgical packs, Baylee does much of the work that helps keep your animals clean and taken care of during their stay. She monitors and assists with post-surgical care on the recovery mat, helps with intake and discharge, and fills in wherever else she's needed. She has been such a huge help since coming on and is invaluable to our team! You will definitely see her in the mornings and afternoons during intake and discharge, so make sure to say hello!

Happy Friday everyone!

Another impactful week with a lot of good things going on!

First, our impact graphic is attached. 166 animals this week! Another great week of supporting the cats and dogs that came to see us!

We also have another staff highlight for today! We would like to highlight our licensed veterinary technician Jessica!

Jessica has also been with us from day 1 and has been a valued member of our team from the start. If your animal has been in our clinic, Jessica has been the one that's provided the anesthesia. She is the only one that has interacted with every single animal that's come through our clinic, which is over 4,000 cats and dogs!

Her energy is unmatched and her ability to multitask is the reason we are able to have the impact we do each day. She has extreme passion for animal care, spaying and neutering, and is essential to the work we do. She also probably gets more steps in each day than any other staff member and helps in every single phase from beginning to end of your pet's journey through the clinic. Also, if you come in during the day, you may hear her sweet talking the animals right before they get their anesthesia! She definitely can and does do it all and your pets are very thankful she's with us!

We appreciate her, along with all of our staff we've highlighted this week! We've got a few more staff highlights coming next week, so be on the lookout for those!

Here's another staff highlight for you!

Today we want to shout out our receptionist Lilly!

Lilly has a great deal of experience in veterinary medicine and has served in a variety of capacities in multiple veterinary clinics.

Lilly does a fantastic job working with our clients to understand medications and discharge instructions, and is the one that schedules the vast majority of our appointments. She is affectionately known as the "cat whisperer" and steps in and helps work with animals behind the scenes whenever needed! She works each day to ensure your animal's records are accurate, that your pet receives exactly what they need each day, and coordinates with other clinics to ensure that we have the most up to date information on your pet.

Lilly runs the front every day and is vital to what we do at Cahaba Spay Neuter, so if you stop by, make sure to say hello to her!

Also, a huge shout out to all of our followers! We've reached 750 followers on Facebook and are so thankful that so many of you watch and follow our journey of spaying and neutering!
