OWNER FOUND!! 🙌

I SWEAR I don't go looking, but we found a lost pup this morning. Please share around Pelham so we can find her parents!

Our sweet Maggie wasn’t feeling like herself this morning, so she took a trip straight to North Shelby Animal Hospital. 💚 They found some lesions on the tip of her tongue, and she’s back with us, resting with pain medication to keep her comfortable.

We’re still not sure what happened, but if you know Maggie, you know she gets into EVERYTHING. We suspect a disagreement with a lizard… but neither party has agreed to give a statement. 🦎🐈‍⬛

You may not see her in the lobby asking for pets this week while she recovers. We’re hoping she’ll be ready for all your love and attention by Monday! 🐾

Marj had a day out! 🐾☀️

Marj joined us at Bark Mountain back in August as a “Foster for the Heat” pup. She recently headed out for an adoption event at Shelby Humane! While she didn’t find her forever family, she enjoyed playing fetch, getting plenty of one-on-one attention, and soaking up the fresh air on a beautiful day. 💚

A big thank-you to Ranger Kait for taking Marj to the event and spending the day giving her extra love and attention! 🥰

Marj is still available for adoption! This affectionate girl is looking for a home where she can be your only dog—and your favorite fetch partner. 🎾

Want to meet her? Visit Marj at Bark Mountain in Pelham during business hours, or contact Shelby Humane to learn more about adopting her, or apply at the link in the comments. Let’s help this sweet girl find her family! 🏡🐾

🐾 **A healthy weight starts with what goes in the bowl!**
Use this body condition scale to check how your pup is doing, and keep these feeding habits in mind:

🥣 **Measure every meal.** Use an actual measuring cup—not a drinking cup or a heaping scoop! For even more accuracy, use a kitchen scale to weigh portions in grams.

🦴 **Treats count, too!** Include snacks, dental chews, toppers, and table scraps in your dog’s daily calories. Adjust kibble to account for those extras, and keep treats to no more than 10% of daily calories.

🐕 **Put their kibble to work.** Set aside part of their daily food allowance for easy training rewards, sniff games, or puzzle toys instead of adding high-calorie snacks.

🕛 **Most healthy adult dogs don’t need an extra lunch.** Breakfast and dinner generally work well. If your dog eats three meals, divide their daily allowance among them—don’t add another serving. Puppies and dogs with medical needs may need a different schedule.

👀 **Feed the dog in front of you.** Bag guidelines are a starting point; portions should reflect your dog’s activity, age, and body condition. You should generally be able to feel their ribs easily and see a waist from above.

💚 Check weight regularly, make sure everyone in the family follows the same feeding plan, and ask your vet for a calorie target if your pup needs to gain or lose weight. More play, praise, and cuddles are always great ways to show love!

With so many dog foods to choose from, finding the right one can feel overwhelming! 🐶🍽️ For Pet Wellness Month, we’re sharing a few things to look for:

🐾 Complete and balanced: Check the nutritional adequacy statement on the back or side of the bag.
🐾 The right life stage: Puppies and adults have different needs, and large-breed puppies need food suited to their growth.
🐾 Expertise behind the food: Look for brands with qualified nutrition professionals, quality-control testing, and nutrition research.
🐾 More than marketing: Words like “premium” and “holistic”—or the ingredient list alone—don’t tell you the whole story.

The best food is one that meets your dog’s nutritional needs, keeps them healthy and thriving, fits your budget, and is easy to buy consistently! 💚

Your veterinarian can help you choose a food and feeding amount that fit your dog’s health, weight, and activity level.
