🐾 Ticks Are Out in Full Force — Is Your Pet Protected? 🐾

As the weather warms up, we're seeing a significant increase in ticks throughout our area. These tiny parasites may be small, but they can carry serious diseases that affect both pets and people.

• Lyme disease
• Anaplasmosis
• Ehrlichiosis
• Babesiosis
• Rocky Mountain spotted fever

Many pets don't show symptoms right away, but tick-borne illnesses can lead to fever, joint pain, lethargy, loss of appetite, lameness, and other serious health concerns.

🥵🐾 The Heat Is On! 🐾🥵

Today's combination of high temperatures and humidity can make it difficult for pets to cool themselves effectively. Dogs and cats are much more susceptible to heat-related illness than many people realize.

Before heading outside with your pet, remember:
💧 Bring fresh water wherever you go
🌳 Stick to shaded areas whenever possible
🐕 Keep walks short and avoid strenuous exercise
🐾 Check pavement temperatures before walks—it may be too hot for paws
🏠 Make sure pets have access to cool indoor spaces

Watch for warning signs such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or difficulty breathing. If you suspect your pet is overheating, seek veterinary care immediately.

The safest place for most pets on days like today is indoors with air conditioning or a fan and plenty of fresh water.

☀️ 🐾 HEAT ADVISORY — KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE! 🐾 ☀️

With temperatures soaring and humidity levels high, our pets are at increased risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Remember: if it feels hot to you, it feels even hotter to them!

☀️ Heat Safety Tips:
✅ Provide plenty of fresh, cool water at all times
✅ Limit outdoor activity, especially during the hottest parts of the day
✅ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
✅ Avoid hot pavement—it can burn paw pads in seconds
✅ Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes
✅ Make sure outdoor pets have access to shade and ventilation

🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Bright red gums
• Collapse or difficulty breathing

If you notice any of these signs, move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian right away. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening very quickly.

Certain pets are at even higher risk, including brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds, senior pets, overweight pets, and those with underlying heart or respiratory conditions.
