Animal Dental Specialists is dedicated to improving & maintaining the dental health of cats and dogs.

Our team has extensive experience in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. In 2009, Dr. Gaddis completed the additional training and rigorous testing required to become board-certified by the ADVC. He is one of 200 veterinary dental specialists in the United States who have achieved board-certification from the AVDC, and he is the only one practicing in the state of Alabama.

Even cool cats like this guy need extractions sometimes! 🦷

Maverick came to see us with juvenile periodontitis, an inflammatory condition that can affect younger cats.

Because juvenile periodontitis can contribute to the development and progression of periodontal disease, maintaining good oral health from an early age is especially important. Regular COHATs (Complete Oral Health Assessment and Treatment) at least once a year allow us to monitor the mouth, address dental disease early, and hopefully help the inflammation calm down over time.

Maverick also had tooth resorption affecting several teeth, so those teeth were extracted to help keep him comfortable and prevent further problems.

Starting a dental routine early can make a big difference in your cat’s long-term oral health. 🐾

🎊 CONGRATULATIONS BRIANNA SWANN, LVT!!! 🎊

Help us celebrate Brianna Swann, who recently took the VTNE, PASSED, and officially earned her LVT license! 🩺 🐾

Brianna graduated from the Veterinary Technology Program at Jefferson State Community College in December of 2025 and has worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone. We have watched her put in the time, dedication, and determination it takes to become a licensed veterinary technician, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

We are so grateful to have Brianna as part of the Animal Dental Specialists team. She brings so much hard work, compassion, and an amazing attitude to everything she does, and we know she has a wonderful future ahead of her in veterinary medicine. 💙

Congratulations, Brianna! You worked for this, you earned it, and you are so deserving to be called an LVT! 🎓 🐶 🐱 🦷 ✨

Dogs are pretty good at hiding when something hurts, and dental pain is no exception.
Sometimes the signs are subtle. Maybe your dog is chewing on one side, dropping food, avoiding their favorite hard treats, pawing at their mouth, or just acting a little different.
The tricky part is a dog can still be eating normally and have a painful mouth.
Our pets can't tell us when something hurts, so it's up to us to notice those little changes. If your dog is showing any of these signs, it may be time to take a closer look at their dental health.
A healthy mouth isn't just about clean teeth. It's about keeping our pets comfortable too. ❤️

Stormie, a beautiful Maine C**n, came to us with severe oral inflammation.

After a thorough evaluation, we extracted the teeth affected by advanced periodontal disease, removed the inflamed gingival tissue that had grown over portions of the remaining teeth, and applied a protective dental sealant to help reduce further plaque formation.

Our goal is always to relieve pain, preserve healthy teeth whenever possible, and help our patients enjoy a more comfortable, healthier life. We hope Stormie is feeling much better already 🖤🐾
