September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. It is a time to talk openly about the wellbeing of the people who care for our pets.

Losing a pet is heartbreaking for a family. Veterinary teams feel that loss, too. They may help a pet pass peacefully, support the family through goodbye, and then continue caring for the next patient. Those moments do not simply disappear when the appointment ends.

The need for support is real. A CDC study of U.S. veterinary professionals found that, compared with the general population, su***de was 1.6 times more likely among male veterinarians, 2.4 times more likely among female veterinarians, and 2.3 times more likely among female veterinary technicians and technologists.

Please check in on the people around you. Listen without judgment, make room for grief, and remind someone who is struggling that they deserve support. To our veterinary colleagues: you matter beyond the care you give.

Today, our team is mourning the loss of Rook, our tech supervisor’s beloved fur baby.

Rook was family. Our hearts are with his mom and everyone who loved him. We spend our days helping families through the loss of their pets, but that never makes saying goodbye to one of our own any easier.

Please keep Bri in your thoughts and give our team a little grace as we remember Rook today. Rest peacefully, sweet boy. 🐾🤍

🐾 Friendly reminder: No naked pets! 🐾

All pets must be safely secured before entering Pekin Veterinary Clinic:

🐕 Dogs must be on a leash.
🐈 Cats and other small pets must be inside a secure carrier.

We know, “Don’t worry—they’ll stay with me!” But that is usually how the lobby rodeo begins. 🤠

Leashes and carriers help prevent escapes, unexpected greetings, injuries, and unnecessary stress. Thank you for helping us keep every pet, client, and team member safe!

We want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to our incredible clients, community, and team for hanging in there with us through the unexpected air conditioning fire, temporary closure, and power outage.

We know the changes, interruptions, and uncertainty were inconvenient, and we truly appreciate your patience, understanding, kindness, and support while we worked through each challenge.

Most importantly, we are incredibly grateful that everyone was safe. Our team pulled together, our community supported us, and we made it through a very eventful few days.

During this time, we will remain available for phone calls and medication pickups only. We will close for lunch from 12-1pm.

Due to an unexpected facility issue, Pekin Veterinary Clinic will be closed Thursday, August 13.
