Hey everyone! If you have any extra blankets that you do not need and want to drop them off in the next couple of days, please send us a DM to get our address. We use them for extra insulation for the tortoises. Miss T and Tortilla appreciate all of you! ❄️

We are so happy with the amount of inquires we have received recently regarding potential adoptions. However, of the many that have asked for applications, we have only received one back.

With that being said, we are still at full capacity and need to get these sweet tortoises adopted out. Please continue to share our posts and help us find new adopters before the holidays! 🐢

Dirt Bike Dad
Phinney Farm

This is a shoutout to Dirt Bike Dad and Phinney Farm!

Wow what a crazy few days earlier this week, right? I am sure this amazing weather pattern touched just about everyone in some way. For those that are local to the Houston area we saw unprecedented weather in the form of buckets of snow and temperatures that dropped into the teens. Needless to say this was truly a generational winter storm. My hope is that everyone took care of their fur babies as well the shelled or scaled ones.

My job always seems to have me far and away when nasty things happen to the LTR. We are just lucky that way it seems, which brings me to my point. After all the snow had fallen, the unthinkable happened. The back part of our residence collapsed. Thankfully no one was hurt. What we did not realize initially was that when the structure caved in it severed the electrical wires that provide the power for all but one of the large tortoises near the back of the property.

When KoKo (my wife) figured this out she began to do everything she could to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, no extension cords were long enough to reach the torts, the generator inexplicably would not start and no box stores were open to get supplies to overcome this. Not to mention the roads had deteriorated again as the slush from the snow had frozen to ice. This was turning into a tragedy in the making.

Not all heroes wear capes!

Being all but completely helpless in a hotel across the country, I thought of a family that we had partnered up with in the past. This is the Phinney family. Matt and Jessi own and operate the Phinney Farm and the Dirt Bike Dad mechanic shop. I called them and they did not even let me finish my plea to them for help. Matt was on his way. Within the hour he had power restored to the tortoises. He came from a town away to take care of these guys in my absence. Not all heroes wear capes, but this one does have a cool name….Dirt Bike Dad… or simply Matt.

The words thank you fall far short of the actual admiration and true heart felt gratitude that I have for this family. Please give this family a look on Facebook and check out the many services they offer. Give them a like, a follow or heck if nothing else just say hi to them. They do not need me advertising for them, but I am just trying to pay it forward the best way I can.

I will end this way too large post with this…. Matt’s selfless act of putting himself in harm’s way to save “some turtles”, as some would say, reminds me that the world is not all bad and that maybe Superman is not in Metropolis. He lives a town over and actually works on motorcycles.

Thank you for your time,
Brad aka Turtle
