We are hiring an exceptional pet care provider.
If interested, please read the entire description and make sure this applies to you. If so, email your resume to [email protected]
Please do not call the business regarding this job.

We are not a traditional dog daycare and that's intentional!
Barks & Recreation is a small, independently owned pet care business built around the belief that dogs deserve more than a chaotic room full of dogs and a person simply supervising them. We focus on individualized care, enrichment, mental stimulation, canine communication, emotional wellbeing and meaningful relationships with both the animals in our care and their families.
We're looking for someone who shares that philosophy.
This is not a position for someone who simply "likes dogs." We're looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about high quality animal care and wants to learn how to provide it at a higher level.
What You'll Be Doing:
As an Animal Care Provider, you'll be an important part of the daily experience our client's pets receive. Responsibilities will include:
Providing attentive, hands on care for dogs in a small group, enrichment focused environment
Learning to recognize and appropriately respond to canine body language and communication
Providing individualized enrichment, mental stimulation, structured activities, and appropriate play
Feeding pets and following individual care instructions
Administering medications when needed
Monitoring pets throughout the day and communicating any changes or concerns
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment. Cleaning is a big part of the job!
Assisting with boarding dogs and following their individual routines
Providing clients with thoughtful updates about their pets when appropriate
Building genuine relationships with both pets and their owners
Following Barks & Recreation's standards for safety, enrichment, handling, and individualized care
Being willing to learn and continually improve your understanding of animal behavior and care
Fear Free & Force Free Care Is NonNegotiable
Barks & Recreation is proudly a Fear Free and force free facility. We believe animals should be handled with compassion, patience, respect, and an understanding of their individual emotional needs. We are very proud to follow this scientific standard for canines.
We do not use or permit aversive, punitive, or adverse training or handling methods. This includes physical punishment, intimidation, force based corrections or any other method intended to cause fear, pain, discomfort or distress as a means of managing or changing an animal's behavior. Our approach is based on communication over correction and understanding over punishment.
All team members are expected to uphold these standards at all times. The use of adverse, punitive, or force based methods on an animal in our care is strictly prohibited and will be grounds for immediate termination of employment.
Who We're Looking For
The most important thing to us is who you are and how you care for animals.
You should be:
Compassionate, patient, warm, and genuinely kind
Dependable and responsible
Comfortable communicating with clients in a friendly and professional manner
Someone who notices the little things
Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
Interested in canine behavior, body language, enrichment, and learning
Comfortable with the less glamorous parts of animal care, including cleaning, accidents, feeding, and general upkeep
Someone who understands that professional animal care requires patience, consistency, attention to detail, and physical work
Willing to learn our specific approach to care, even if you have previous animal care experience
Committed to Fear Free, force free, compassionate handling and willing to follow our standards without exception
Previous professional experience with dogs, daycare, boarding, veterinary care, training, grooming, or another animal care setting is a plus. However, the right attitude and willingness to learn are just as important to us as experience. As a small business, our clients are VERY important to us and many are like family so we need someone with a great attitude.
Our clients are truly the BEST, and we are looking for someone with the right attitude and genuine desire to form bonds with them, just as we have.
The Barks & Recreation Difference
We intentionally keep our environment smaller and more individualized than a traditional, high volume daycare.
Our approach is centered around:
Communication over correction.
Quality of care over quantity of dogs.
Quality over Chaos.
Relationships over transactions.
You'll have the opportunity to learn more about canine behavior, enrichment, communication and individualized care than you might in a traditional kennel or daycare environment.
Because we are independently owned, you'll also work directly alongside the owner and learn firsthand how a small, relationship based pet care business operates.
Schedule
This position is approximately 20–30 hours per week.
Your regular schedule will consist of:
3–4 shifts per week, either 10:00 AM–6:00 PM or 12:00 PM–6:00 PM
2 days off each week
Saturday evening: approximately 2–3 hours, generally based on our current boarding needs
Some split shifts on weekends will be needed, but not often
Our schedule is intentionally structured and we're looking for someone who can be dependable and consistent with their assigned shifts, especially given the nature of our model. GOOD COMMUNICATION IS REQUIRED AND EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!

Starting pay: $12–$14/hour
We are a small, independently owned business. While we may not be able to compete with large corporate facilities on starting wages, we strive to offer something different: a genuinely relationship based workplace where you not only enjoy coming to work, but where the work itself has meaning.
You'll gain meaningful hands on experience, opportunities to learn and the ability to make a real difference in the lives of the animals we care for.
As the business grows, there will be opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation for team members who demonstrate exceptional reliability, skill, initiative and commitment to our standards of care.
We want the right person to grow with the company.
This Job Isn't for Everyone and that's okay!
If you're looking for a job where you can simply show up, let dogs run around, and go home, this probably isn't the right position.
But if you want to be part of a small business where the details matter, where animals are treated as individuals, where relationships with clients genuinely matter, and where you're encouraged to learn and grow as an animal care professional, we'd love to hear from you.
We're looking for someone who wants to become part of us trying to shift an industry model to one that is more focused on the pet's wellbeing... not simply fill a shift.
If you believe that dogs deserve patience, respect, enrichment, understanding, and genuinely thoughtful care, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING and be sure this applies before contacting. We are an owner operated daycare and boarding facility that caters to small groups and building relationships.
We’re looking to add one exceptional person to our team for a very part time position. This would primarily be 2-4 shifts per week that are a couple hours at a time, to care for boarding dogs and do deep cleaning. Must be available on weekends, Mondays and potentially one other day during the week, with some split shifts required. Split shifts typically consist of a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon/evening, if needed. Please know that reliability is one of the most important aspects, as we currently run with JUST our owner. This means that when you are scheduled, you will be needed and any communication is extremely important.
Barks & Recreation is not your typical doggy daycare. We are a relationship based, kennel free, home styled facility that places a huge emphasis on mental stimulation, individualized care and helping dogs feel safe and confident.
We especially enjoy working with dogs who may be anxious, fearful, or lacking confidence. Our goal isn't simply to keep dogs entertained while their owners are away, we want every dog to have a positive, enriching experience where they can learn, decompress, and truly thrive.
We are also a Fear Free Certified facility, so the way we interact with dogs is extremely important to us.
About the position:
This role will primarily involve:
• Caring for boarding dogs
• Providing individualized attention and enrichment as listed out
• Feeding and maintaining routines provided by owner
• Deep cleaning and maintaining our facility at every shift
• Helping ensure our dogs have a safe, calm, and positive environment
Because of the nature of our facility, we will be extremely selective about who we hire.
The right person must:
Have previous experience working with dogs
Be comfortable handling a variety of breeds, personalities, and temperaments
Be confident working with anxious, fearful, or sensitive dogs
Be dependable, responsible, and detail oriented
Be comfortable working alone with dogs (again, small scale so never more than a handful at a time)
Be comfortable with deep cleaning every shift.
Have a genuine passion for dogs and their wellbeing
Be completely committed to positive reinforcement based handling and training
Positive reinforcement is not optional at Barks & Recreation.
As a Fear Free Certified facility, we do not use intimidation, fear, physical corrections, or adversive punishment. Any use of adverse methods with a dog will be grounds for immediate termination. We need someone who not only agrees with this philosophy, but genuinely believes in it and is excited to work this way.
Pay is based entirely on experience and qualifications.
If you think you could be a great fit for our little team, please email your resume to [email protected].
Please understand that this is a very part time position and because we are so particular about the care and handling of our dogs, we will only be contacting applicants who appear to be an excellent fit.
We’re looking for someone who will treat our clients’ dogs with the same care, patience, and respect that we do.

***EMAIL THAT WENT OUT THIS AM REGARDING SCHEDULE FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2026:
Hi all!
I wanted to send out the attached calendar so everyone has plenty of notice about some upcoming schedule changes for the remainder of the year. Between a few personal obligations and the holidays, our schedule for Sept - December will be a little different from week to week, so I wanted to put everything in one easy to reference calendar rather than sending out lots of individual changes and potentially causing confusion.

The good news is that I have made sure we are still open the same number of days each week and have even added extra days thruout the month where possible! This way, no one is losing out on any days (in fact, you will have more opportunities for your pet to attend despite the weekly change ups) You are absolutely welcome to switch your usual daycare days around as needed to accommodate the schedule changes. Just let me know what works best for you!

You’ll also notice that I have added a few extra Appointment Only days throughout the calendar. These days are available to everyone and can absolutely be utilized for daycare! In fact, these days are often some of the most fun for the dogs because I’m able to give them much more individualized attention. I have definitely noticed that Thursday is the favorite day for dogs who attend. I typically have only 4–8 dogs attending on these days, so it’s a smaller, more relaxed group that still allows them to have their interaction and energy out! The only difference with Appointment Only days is that drop off and pick up times will need to be scheduled in advance, since I won’t be watching the camera as diligently throughout the day while I’m working more individually with the dogs. If you are interested in scheduling on any of the appointment only days, just let me know!

Also, I know at first glance it may look like there are a LOT of extra closures! Just keep in mind that we are normally closed on Mondays already, so some of the red days you see are simply our usual Monday closures or days that I have opened on Monday and changed the "closed" day to a different day that week. I’ve done my best to add extra days wherever possible so that everyone still has plenty of opportunities to attend.

For those of you who have been with me for a while, you already know that the end of the year tends to be a little chaotic for me! 😂 I truly appreciate everyone's patience, flexibility and understanding as I work around everything going on over the next few months. I know schedule changes can be inconvenient, and I really appreciate you all working with me and being so understanding. Once we get into the new year, things will settle back down and we’ll return to our normal, much more consistent schedule. ❤️

Thank you all so much for being the amazing clients you are and for continuing to work with me through all of the changes. I appreciate every single one of you and your pups more than you know!

I will have copies of these calendars available at the daycare as well as posted everywhere. Please keep the attached calendar handy and as always, let me know if you have any questions at all!

Thank you!

As most of you know, one of my girls crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. I am heartbroken and honestly, struggling more than I expected.

After giving it a lot of thought, I've decided it would be best for daycare to be closed on tomorrow, Friday August 7. I need to take this time to grieve, and I also want to ensure that when I'm caring for your dogs, I can give them my full attention and provide the safe, attentive care they deserve. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, especially to my regular Friday attendees. To make up for the closure, I will gladly credit your account for an additional daycare day that can be used in the future.

Please know this was a very difficult, last minute decision and I truly appreciate your understanding, patience and kindness during this incredibly hard time. Thank you for your support. It means more than you know.

Today, our pack lost a deeply loved member & my family lost a huge piece of our hearts.

Mika was around 16 years old and although it was so hard to admit it, it was time for her to cross the Rainbow Bridge. She lived a long, beautiful life filled with so much love and I hope she always knew just how cherished she was.
I know our pack will miss her cuddles just as much as I will. She was every little dog's favorite nap time buddy... always offering comfort, warmth, and quiet companionship.

There will never be another Mika. We will miss you more than words can express, and you'll be loved forever.
Rest easy, sweet girl. I love you so much🌈❤️
