🐶💉 “Why does my puppy need SO MANY vaccines?!”

We hear this one ALL the time… and honestly, it’s a great question!

Here’s the part most puppy parents don’t realize:

💕 Mom’s antibodies can actually interfere with vaccines.

When puppies nurse, they receive antibodies from their mom that help protect them during those first precious weeks of life. But those maternal antibodies don't disappear at the exact same time in every puppy.

And here's the tricky part…

If a puppy still has enough maternal antibodies when we vaccinate, those antibodies can neutralize the vaccine before the puppy’s immune system gets the chance to build its own protection. 😳

So how do we work around that?

💉 We vaccinate in a series!

Each puppy vaccine is another opportunity for their immune system to respond as those maternal antibodies gradually fade.

Eventually, we reach the point where the puppy can develop its OWN immune protection. 🛡️🐾

That's why skipping a puppy vaccine because your pup “already had one” can leave them vulnerable.

Think of it like this:

🐾 Mom gives them their starter protection.
💉 Vaccines help them build their long-term protection.

And while they're going through this series, they're still considered vulnerable to serious diseases—which is why we recommend being cautious about where puppies go and which dogs they interact with until they're adequately protected.

Those puppy shots aren't overkill. They're a carefully timed process designed around the way a puppy's immune system develops. ❤️

So when your puppy comes in for that next vaccine, just remember…

We're not giving them “another shot.” We're giving their immune system another chance to learn how to protect them. 🐶🛡️💉

💔 The hardest part about losing a pet isn’t always the moment you say goodbye.

Sometimes, it’s the morning after.

It’s waking up and realizing you don’t have to fill their food bowl anymore.

It’s walking through the door and not hearing the familiar paws coming to greet you.

It’s reaching down to pet them out of habit… and remembering they aren’t there.

It’s seeing their favorite spot on the couch sitting empty.

It’s finding a toy underneath the furniture months later and suddenly feeling that ache all over again.

Our pets become woven into the smallest parts of our lives. They are there for the ordinary moments—the morning coffee, the quiet evenings, the bad days, the celebrations, the lonely moments when they somehow knew exactly when we needed them.

And then one day, you have to make the impossible decision to let them go.

You may know in your heart that it is the kindest thing you can do for them, but knowing that doesn't make it hurt any less.

Because sometimes love means being willing to hurt so they don't have to.

You carry them through their final moments, hold them a little tighter, tell them how much you love them, and hope they somehow understand that you are letting them go because you love them more than you want to keep them.

And then you walk out without them.

💔 That silence can be deafening.

So if you're grieving a pet, please don't tell yourself you should be “over it” by now.

You lost a family member.

You lost a routine.

You lost a little piece of your everyday life.

And most of all, you lost a soul who loved you without conditions, without judgment, and without ever asking for anything more than your time and your love.

Grieve them.

Miss them.

Say their name.

Tell their stories.

Look at their pictures, even when it makes you cry.

Because the goal isn't to stop missing them.

The goal is to someday be able to think of them and smile through the tears, grateful that for a little while, you got to love something so completely. 🐾❤️

At Country View Vet Service, it is an honor to walk beside families during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. We know that saying goodbye isn't “just part of having a pet.”

It is the price we pay for getting to love them.

And sometimes, that price feels unbearably high.

🦷❤️ “I’m nervous about the anesthesia.”

As a veterinarian, I completely understand why this is one of the biggest concerns I hear from pet owners when I recommend a dental cleaning.

And honestly, I want you to ask about it.

When your pet is in our care, we take anesthesia very seriously. We don't use a one-size-fits-all protocol and we don't give more medication than we need to. Every pet is different, so we tailor their anesthetic protocol to their individual needs, health, age, temperament, and the procedure we're performing.

Our goal is simple: the least amount of sedation/anesthesia necessary while keeping your pet safely anesthetized, relaxed, and completely pain-free.

And once they're asleep, we don't just walk away. 👀

We continuously monitor things like:
🫀 Heart rate & rhythm
🫁 Oxygen levels
🩺 Blood pressure
💨 Breathing
🌡️ Temperature
😴 Depth of anesthesia

Our team is watching these parameters throughout the entire procedure so we can make adjustments when needed.

I know handing your pet over for anesthesia can be scary. They're part of your family, and we know how much you trust us when you leave them in our hands.

That trust is something we don't take lightly. ❤️

So if you've been putting off your pet's dental because anesthesia makes you nervous, please talk to us. We'd much rather answer your questions and ease your concerns than have fear keep your pet from getting the dental care they need.

Because taking care of their teeth is important—but taking care of them while we're doing it is just as important to us. 🐾🦷

🐕 When “getting older” might actually be something more… ❤️

It's easy to chalk up slowing down, sleeping more, or not wanting to play as long to getting older.

But sometimes those changes can be signs of heart disease.

This X-ray is from a dog with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) that had progressed to congestive heart failure.

DCM causes the heart to become enlarged and weaker, eventually making it difficult for the heart to keep up with the body's demands.

If your dog is coughing, breathing faster than normal at rest, tiring easily, or having difficulty exercising, it's time for a checkup. 🐾❤️

Sometimes catching heart disease early can make all the difference.

Eli came in needing a little patchwork after a rough encounter, and we were more than happy to get him stitched up! 🧵🩹

Apparently, our emergency services now include saving dogs from lions, fixing battle wounds, and backing you up in your next David vs. Goliath situation. 😂

The best part? Eli’s thank-you card to Dr. Meyer, Justine & the staff. ❤️

We’re just glad we could help—and even more glad that Eli is doing well!

P.S. Eli… we promise we won’t tell anyone about the “girl” who beat you up. 😉😂
