Happy Sunday Funday!

Charlene told me each week we get new fb friends, so I guess it would be a good idea that I try and get acquainted with them and let them know my back story...

It all began back in April 2019. It was very late at night, as a matter of fact, Charlene told me it was almost the next morning being it was near midnight.

The person I was living with at the time put me outside. It was raining so hard. There was loud thunder boomers and the sky kept lighting up with lightning. I don't think I've ever been so afraid in my whole life. Back then I was just over 1 year old but I had to grow up quick.

See that's when a nice lady who was walking down the street saw me so scared and frantically trying to claw my way into any home that would welcome me in. Only nobody did.

She called the police and I can't tell you how relieved I was when that nice officer pulled up in that police cruiser and opened the door for me. I didn't hesitate to jump right in and he drove me back to the police station where i spent the night.

This happened on a Friday night, so Charlene had that next day off (Saturday) but when the police called her that morning to tell her what happened to me, she came right into work to help me.

She brought me to the place I've been ever since, the shelter. On the ride to come here she told me I was going to be alright. I guess I couldn't hide the fact that I was still pretty nervous. I remember her saying that my life was about to change, only its gonna be hard to learn the ropes at first, but once I could accept my new life at the shelter, things would only go up from there.

Well...I tried! I just couldn't fight the demon of my anxiety. It was starting to get the best of me and Charlene knew it 😔 She put out a plea to help me get medicine that would help with anxiety. My friend and trainer, Jacqueline, suggested I be taken out of the room that has lots of dogs in it and lots of people that come in and out all day. I was put in an area that only my shelter family can visit. I REALLY like it back there!

Charlene had a long talk with me this week. She told me how everyone is trying so hard to get me a home and family of my very own. It's all I've ever wanted! She told me she loves me but does not want me to have to celebrate a 1 year anniversary here.

Lots of good things have been happening for me. I got me a new good friend, Samuel. He makes sure I have good, healthy, food to eat. He brought me toys and a nice sweater. A rescue called Animal Rescue Konnection made a cool You Tube video of me and I think that means I'm famous. They also made me my very own business cards, which are actually more the size of greeting cards. Charlene left them on the front counter at the shelter hoping people will hang them at busy locations.

She told me this week that she spoke with people that called to ask questions about me. Thing is I MUST be the only pet in the home. That's whats safe for me and others. People want that changed about me. I've tried, I really have. I've worked for all these months with my friend Jacqueline but I am who I am.

Charlene told me to never feel sorry about who I am because I'm every bit as worthy as any other dog of a home and family. She said if people can't accept me for me than that's their loss! Charlene said I have the greatest supporters and a team that's gonna stop at nothing to make sure I walk out these doors.

Charlene, remember that 1st car ride when you tried so hard to let me know I was gonna be alright? You seen I was stressed. Lately I've seen you stressed about how things just not working out for me. It's my turn to let you know that whatever happens, whether I'm here for that 1 year anniversary or not, I'm gonna be alright...just like you said from the start!

Tongue out Tuesday!🐶

For those of you who are new to the page and don't know Amaya's story, she is coming up on her 1 year anniversary at the animal shelter.

Amaya was found as a stray one very stormy night in April 2019. So scared, she frantically clawed at people’s doors to get inside. When police arrived, Amaya was so happy that she jumped right in their car. She is such a loving, sweet, beautiful girl who would love to have a family to call her own! ❤️

Amaya wants to say thank you to everyone who liked and shared her page over the last couple of days... keep up the good work to help Amaya find her forever home! ❤️

Happy Monday from Amaya! 💕Keep on liking and sharing, it is much appreciated! 😁

Happy Sunday Funday!

Amaya wants to thank everyone who has been standing by her in her journey, but it's not over yet! We still have work to do! We still have to somehow keep spreading the word that she is in need of a home and reach as many people that will read or listen to her story.

Bully type dogs find it so hard to make their way out of shelter doors. When they must be the only pet, that only makes things that much tougher. Majority of people have at least one existing pet in the home, and those without pets usually are not up to taking one on that has to be an only pet. And then there are those that I've spoken to that think of her as a project. A dog they feel they can change.

Often times people have a hard time accepting things for what they are. They want to mold things to their wants, needs or likes. Forcing dogs into doing what they don't want to do, feel they don't need to do, or like to do can certainly put that dog in a very compromised and dangerous situation. Dogs never look at us and think of us as a project. They love us unconditionally for who we are. I love Amaya for exactly who she is because anyone that takes the time to know her will know she is an incredibly sweet dog that deserves far more than what life has offered her so far.

If you are interested in Amaya, head on over to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter and submit an application. For questions on Amaya, please contact ACO Charlene directly at #401-616-2561!

Amaya is so good at fetch😍 all that she wants (and we want for her) is to be able to play fetch with her forever family!❤️

03/04/2020

One very stormy night in April 2019, Amaya was outside, scared and astray. So scared, she frantically clawed at people’s doors to get inside. When police arrived, Amaya was so happy that she jumped right in their car. As an homage to her experience, the staff named her Amaya, which means Night Rain.

A darling 2+ year old, 50-pound pittie mix located in Central Falls, RI! Amaya has an ever-so-happy smile and a persistently wagging tail, but despite her ‘joie de vivre’ attitude, her backstory is not so cheerful.

This delightful, carefree girl has a short, stout body and antenna-like ears that make her all the more lovable. She knows sit, wait, and give paw. Being very toy and treat driven, she’s easy to work with. Amaya's a master at fetch and lives for tennis balls. Though Amaya is an all-around great dog, she hasn’t been adopted simply because no one gets to see her. Amaya becomes overstimulated and anxious on the adoption floor and this prevents her from being seen by the public.

She's incredibly sweet with people, and kids will enjoy her too (ages 8 and over are best since she is super active. She’d like a fenced yard to play fetch and run free. She will be the only pet in the home: no dogs, cats, or the like.

Since that scary stormy night, Amaya has seen the seasons come and go and kennel kids get adopted. If we had one wish, it would be for Amaya to be adopted before reaching the one-year anniversary of being a shelter dog.
