I was asked yesterday how someone could support our work. One of the ways is to support sanctuaries in your community like Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue
Akindale have offered sanctuary spots to several of our horses including Milton The Monster pictured. The Exceller Fund and the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation have also taken sanctuary placements from us.
By placing these horses at sanctuary, it opens up a stall for another horse with second career potential.
It really does become a wheel of life.

Weekend Help Needed at Akindale TB Aftercare (ASAP!)

Akindale TB Aftercare is looking for reliable weekend help to assist with the care of our horses.

Schedule:
📅 Saturday & Sunday
⏰ 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)

Duties include:
• Assisting with feeding grain and hay
• Checking the general care and well-being of horses
• Helping with fence repairs and general farm maintenance
• Assisting with day-to-day farm care

Requirements:
• Must be comfortable around horses
• Ability to safely hold horses in a field
• Reliable and willing to work outdoors in a farm environment
• Drivers license

We’re so thankful to the Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) for their continued support and dedication to retired racehorses like ours. ❤️

With over 90 retired Thoroughbreds calling our sanctuary home, we’re endlessly grateful for the TCA for making it possible to give these horses the happy lives they deserve.

👋 Say hello to Milton the Monster — the newest arrival at Akindale!

Don’t let the name fool you, this handsome guy is all heart. Milton is settling in and already winning over all the boys with his laid back charm and sweet nature.

We’re so happy to give him a soft landing and a fresh start in his post track life. A huge thank you to our friends at ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption for working with us to give this guy a home and for taking in some of our adoptable horses in return. Partnerships like this truly make all the difference! 🐎💫

🏇 Welcome Home, Nimitz Class ❤️

We’re thrilled to officially welcome Nimitz Class to his forever home at Akindale! This striking Thoroughbred came to us from our incredible friends at ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption, and we’re so grateful to be part of his well-earned retirement.

Nimitz Class had an outstanding career on the track — with 27 starts, 11 wins, 4 seconds, 1 third, and over $771,870 in earnings, showing both talent and heart every time he raced. Now, he gets to enjoy a new chapter filled with peaceful pastures and all the love he deserves.

We’re so grateful to ReRun Thoroughbred Adoption for their incredible partnership in helping us place some wonderful horses into loving homes through their amazing adoption program. Thanks to their support, we’re also able to provide a safe, happy place for a couple horses who can’t be adopted, giving them the chance to live out their days in peace at our sanctuary!

We are going to have a few horses for adoption that came from Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue, which is a NY sanctuary farm for racehorses. They kindly took some horses from us that will be able to live out their lives on the farm's 300 acres, and in return, we took some of the younger adoptable horses deserving of their own homes and people. These horses will have already been acclimatized to living out 24/7 in herds and, in most cases, have had a year or more away from the track and some light training.

Meet True Brit and Sir Dunston, two of our beloved sanctuary residents at Akindale! 🐴💚 These horses have found a safe and peaceful home with us, where they enjoy their well-deserved retirement after their racing days.

Congratulations to Sarah on her adoption of Odeon! After 8 years in our Sanctuary, we decided to give this guy a go and we’re so happy we did. Unsurprisingly, “Odie” quickly became a barn favorite!

We are so lucky to have Dr. Bill Bradley and the excellent team at New England Equine Practice to help us find the best second careers for our horses. Odeon is grateful too; the picture says it all!

It takes a village to keep Akindale running in top shape! Not only do we have over 100 retired racehorses in our care, but we are also tasked with meticulously maintaining over 300 acres of land. Thank you to Filiberto, Miguel, Pilar, and Daniel for keeping the ship afloat!
