🐾 A Heartfelt Thank You to Katie Spence ❤️
The staff at McNeal Veterinary Hospital would like to take a moment to recognize someone who has truly become part of our family—our beloved veterinary technician, Katie Spence.
Katie’s love for animals began long before she ever stepped into our clinic. As a child, she could often be found bottle-feeding orphaned wildlife, caring for stray animals, and showing compassion to every creature she met. It was clear from an early age that veterinary medicine was her calling.
Katie began working at McNeal Veterinary Hospital while she was still in high school. Throughout her undergraduate years at Wofford College, she faithfully returned each summer to work alongside us, and after graduation she spent two years with us full-time before taking the next step toward her dream. In total, Katie has dedicated eight wonderful years to caring for our patients and their families.
This August, Katie will begin an exciting new chapter as she heads to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. While we are incredibly sad to see her leave, we could not be more proud of her. She has loved every patient as if they were her own, comforted countless families, and brought kindness, compassion, and joy to our hospital every single day. She has become family to all of us, and we know she will make an outstanding veterinarian.
As she begins this incredible journey, we hope you’ll join us in cheering her on. If you would like to help support Katie as she pursues her veterinary education, contributions are greatly appreciated.

Katie, thank you for your years of dedication, your unwavering compassion, and the love you’ve shared with every patient who walked through our doors. We are incredibly proud of you and cannot wait to welcome you back one day as Dr. Katie Spence. Until then, we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
Love MVH… ❤️🐾

🎉🐾 **Preparing for a Safe 4th of July with Your Pups!** 🐾🎉

As we celebrate this holiday, keeping your furry friends safe is a top priority. Given the current heat advisory, it’s best to **avoid bringing your dogs to the beach altogether**. Here are some important tips from McNeal Vet and R&B Boarding and Daycare to ensure your pups stay cool and comfortable:

☀️**Why the Beach is Off-Limits:**
- **Extreme Heat:** With temperatures expected to exceed 95°F and UV levels at 10, the risk of heatstroke increases dramatically.
- **Severe Paw Burns:** The sand can reach scorching temperatures, potentially harming your dog’s paws.
- **High Risk of Heatstroke:** Dogs are susceptible to heat exhaustion, especially in high humidity, which makes cooling through panting less effective.
- **Salt Poisoning:** Ingesting saltwater can lead to serious health issues, including vomiting and diarrhea.

🌡️ **Heat Safety Tips:**
- **Signs of Heatstroke to Watch For:**
- Excessive panting
- Drooling
- Weakness or lethargy
- Vomiting or diarrhea

🍔 **Avoid Festive Foods:** Keep holiday treats away from your dogs, as many festive foods can be harmful.

🛏️ **Create a Comfortable Space:** If your dog is anxious about fireworks, set up a quiet room with their favorite toys and comforting support.

✨ Important Notice:**
Due to the heat advisory, R&B Boarding and Daycare will have limitations on daycare play next week.

Let’s prioritize our pets’ safety this 4th of July! 🇺🇸🐶 If you have any questions or need advice on keeping your furry friends cool, feel free to reach out!

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸 🎆

🐾 **Attention McNeal Vet and R&B Boarding & Daycare Community!** 🐾

We’re reaching out for your help! We need blankets and big towels you don’t need! As you know, our furry patients and boarders deserve the utmost comfort during their stay with us. We use soft blankets and large towels for a variety of essential purposes:

- **Comfort for Hospital Animals**: Our hospitalized pets benefit greatly from the warmth and coziness of blankets, helping them feel secure and relaxed during their recovery.
- **Bedding for Boarders**: We provide blankets for our boarding animals to ensure they have a comfortable space to rest, making their stay as enjoyable as possible.

Unfortunately, blankets tend to get dirty and worn out quickly—especially with our recent influx of playful “party animals”! 🐶🎉

If you have any soft blankets or large towels you can donate, we would greatly appreciate it! Your generosity helps us keep our furry friends comfy and happy.

Thank you for your continued support! Stop by our clinic to drop off your donations. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our beloved pets! 🐕❤️
