P.A.W.S. (Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society) We support the Pauls Valley Animal Shelter by coordinating volunteers, sponsoring educational programs, and fundraising.

While the shelter intakes animals within Pauls Valley City Limits, our animal welfare resources extend to all of Garvin County. Our organization is made up of over 300 members who care about animals. It is an eclectic group varying in race, age, economic and professional levels and religious affiliations. We are, however, single-minded when confronting our community problems of animal cruelty and neglect, overpopulation and the humane treatment in which our strays and homeless dogs and cats are housed. Our goal is to relieve their suffering, do everything in our power to find them homes and provide a decent animal shelter for Garvin County.

❄️🐾 A Little Straw Can Make a Big Difference! 🐾❄️

Winter will be here before we know it, and we want to help our community get a head start on keeping their pets warm and safe!

This Monday, 10/26/2026, we will have 50 bales of straw to distribute FREE to families in our community! ❤️

There are no income requirements, applications, or qualifications to receive a bale. We’re simply here to help!

🌾 We will initially limit distribution to one bale per household to give as many families as possible the opportunity to prepare. If we have any remaining, we’ll gladly make those available!

A few winter reminders for pet owners:

🐕 Straw, not hay or blankets! Straw helps insulate outdoor shelters and repels moisture better than fabric bedding, which can become wet and freeze.

🏠 Provide proper shelter. Outdoor pets need a dry, enclosed, wind-protected shelter that’s appropriately sized to retain body heat.

💧 Check water frequently. Water bowls can freeze quickly when temperatures drop.

🐾 Remember the vulnerable ones. Puppies, kittens, seniors, short-haired pets, and animals with medical conditions are especially susceptible to cold weather.

❤️ Bring them inside whenever possible! Even with straw and shelter, extreme temperatures can be dangerous. Straw is an added layer of protection, not a substitute for a warm, safe environment.

We know that caring for animals comes with challenges, and sometimes a little assistance goes a long way. We’d much rather help families prepare now than see animals suffer when winter weather arrives.

🐾 JUAN JULIO IS READY FOR A CHANGE OF SCENERY! 🏡❤️

Those big ears, that handsome face, and a name like Juan Julio? Come on now! 😍

Juan Julio is looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home where he can trade the sights and sounds of shelter life for a little more comfort, attention, and quality time with someone special.

He’s a handsome shepherd mix with plenty of personality, and we’d love nothing more than to see him enjoying life outside the shelter.

Sometimes, all a dog needs is a change of environment and someone willing to give them an opportunity to show who they really are.

❤️ Fostering doesn’t have to mean forever. It simply means giving Juan Julio a place to land while we work toward his next chapter. And if you happen to fall in love along the way? Foster-to-adopt might be the perfect fit!

🐾 Four months later, and Peanut is living his best life! ❤️

We absolutely LOVE getting updates like this from our adopters!

Peanut was adopted on June 10th, and his family recently shared how much he’s grown and settled into his new life.

He’s now a healthy 50 pounds, completely house-trained, learning his commands, and enjoying plenty of walks and adventures! He even has FIVE canine siblings to keep him company. 🐶

His family describes him as incredibly smart, a little cautious around strangers, and very attached to his people. In fact, he’s become his mom’s little shadow!

These are the updates that remind us why we do what we do. Adoption day is just the beginning of the story, and seeing animals continue to grow, learn, and thrive in their forever homes means everything.

Thank you to Peanut’s family for loving him, giving him the time to adjust, and sharing a little piece of his happily ever after with us.

We are excited to welcome Savannah to the team! She brings a wonderful combination of experience in animal grooming, volunteerism, and working in a veterinary clinic, along with a genuine passion for animal welfare.

What makes an organization like PAWS successful is having people who are not only passionate about animals but are also eager to get involved, contribute their knowledge, and help move our mission forward.

Savannah’s enthusiasm, experience, and shared commitment to improving the lives of animals make her a wonderful addition to our board.

🖤 A little update on our sweet Velvet! 🐾

You may have seen Velvet on our page recently, and we wanted to share a little more about this senior girl’s journey.

When Velvet came to us, it was pretty clear she hadn’t been feeling her best. Her coat was in poor condition, her nails needed attention, and she had some significant dental concerns. We knew there was likely more going on than what we could see on the outside.

After running bloodwork, we discovered that Velvet has hyperthyroidism, a condition that affects her thyroid and metabolism. Thankfully, it’s something we can manage with daily medication!

And here’s some good news for anyone considering giving Velvet a home: her medication is actually very inexpensive! Having a medical condition doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy a wonderful quality of life, and we’re already seeing some encouraging changes.

In fact, just looking at Velvet now, you can tell she’s starting to feel better. 🥹 We’re hopeful that as her treatment continues, we’ll see even more improvement in her coat, overall condition, and comfort.

Now comes the part we need YOUR help with.

Velvet needs a foster or foster-to-adopt home! 🏡

She’s a senior girl who deserves somewhere soft to land, a little extra TLC, and someone willing to give her the love and attention she deserves during this next chapter.

We know senior cats with medical needs aren’t always the first ones people line up to take home, but we also know just how rewarding it can be to give one of these special souls a chance.

Velvet’s story isn’t over. We’re just getting to the good part. 🖤

Somewhere out there is a home with room for a girl like Lulu. ❤️

Lulu is one of our senior residents, but don’t let that gray around the muzzle fool you. This girl still has some pep in her step! She loves getting outside, stretching those legs, and seeing what kind of fun she can find.

But as much as we love watching her enjoy herself at the shelter, we’d much rather see her doing it in someone’s backyard.

Lulu doesn’t need to spend this chapter of her life waiting in a kennel. She deserves the opportunity to settle into a home, build a routine, and have someone to call her own.

We’re looking for a foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopter for Lulu. Any one of those options could make a world of difference for her.

There’s something pretty special about giving an older dog a chance. You might not get all their years, but you can certainly make the years ahead some of their very best.

🐱 CAT FOSTERS, UNITE! WE NEED YOU! 🐱

Our shelter is full of little faces that could really use a change of scenery, and we’re calling on our cat-loving community to help us out!

From tiny kittens needing a little extra TLC to older cats who just need somewhere comfortable to land, we have cats of all ages who would benefit tremendously from being in a home.

❤️ We need both FOSTERS and FOSTER-TO-ADOPT homes!

Some of these babies are recovering from illness, some need continued socialization, and others are simply waiting for their forever families. A shelter can provide medical care, food, and safety, but there’s something about a home environment that we just can’t replicate.

And fostering doesn’t mean you’re on your own!

🐾 We provide food, litter, supplies, and necessary medications.

🐾 We coordinate veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter appointments.

🐾 Our team is here to support you throughout the process.

🐾 Whether you can help temporarily or you’re considering adoption, we’d love to talk!

Every cat that moves into a foster home also opens up valuable space and resources for the next animal who needs us.

You don’t have to foster ten cats to make a difference. Just one can change everything. ❤️

Sometimes, the problem isn’t the animal. Sometimes, they just haven’t had enough time. ❤️

Meet Winston. 🐾

Before finding his forever home, Winston experienced multiple adoption returns and foster returns. Different homes, different environments, different expectations, and another trip back to the shelter.

But look at him now.

Winston was adopted over a year ago, and today he’s absolutely thriving in a home with dogs and another cat. The same cat who struggled to find a permanent placement has now spent more than a year being a beloved member of a family.

Winston’s story is an important reminder about decompression and adjustment periods.

When an animal enters a new home, we can’t expect them to immediately understand that they’re safe, that the routine is permanent, or that the people around them are their family.

Some animals settle in within days. Others need weeks or even months to truly become comfortable.

During that time, you might see hiding, nervousness, changes in behavior, or difficulty adjusting to other animals. That doesn’t automatically mean the placement isn’t going to work.

It means we need to slow down, provide structure, make introductions appropriately, and give them the opportunity to adjust at their own pace.

Of course, not every placement is the right fit, and sometimes returning an animal is the safest decision. But we also know that some returns can be prevented with realistic expectations, patience, and support.

The animal you see during the first week isn’t necessarily the animal you’ll know six months later.

Winston is proof of what can happen when an animal finally gets the time, understanding, and stability they need.

Over a year later, he’s home. Not just placed. Not just adopted. Home. ❤️

And that’s what we’re working toward for every animal who comes through our doors.

Meet Dr. Phill! 🩺

No appointment necessary, no insurance required, and his only treatment plan involves lots of cuddles, head scratches, and quality time together.

This handsome little gentleman is officially READY FOR ADOPTION, and he has plenty of love to give! Between those big green eyes, his adorable little blep, and his sweet personality, we’re pretty sure he’s going to steal somebody’s heart.

Dr. Phill is accepting applications for a forever family, preferably one willing to follow his very strict prescription for daily affection. 🥹
