Even though dachshunds have a natural tendency to be vocal, you don't have to tolerate excessive barking. Teach them appropriate times to bark and when to be quiet. Consistency is key to managing their genetic tendencies.

Paradigm K9 Dog Training Club is Coming in July

We’re getting ready to launch the Paradigm K9 Dog Training Club — and for a limited time, we’re offering a Founding Member price of $67/month.

Once you sign up as a founding member, you’ll be locked in at $67/month for as long as you keep your membership active.

This club is for dog owners who want to keep going.

Maybe your dog finished one of our training programs and you want to maintain everything you worked hard for.

Maybe things have slipped a little since your dog came home — which is normal, and it’s okay.

Or maybe you’re ready to take your dog’s obedience, confidence, and real-world control to the next level.

That’s exactly what this club is for.

We’ll meet twice per month:

One Saturday each month
One weekday evening each month

https://paradigmdogs.com/dog-training-club/

Exact dates and times are still TBA, but we plan to officially start in July.

These will be structured, coached training sessions where you’ll have access to me and Kayla for coaching, troubleshooting, handling help, and guidance on how to keep improving with your dog.

We’ll work on things like:

Leash handling
Obedience around distractions
Recall and engagement
Place work
Heel and loose leash walking
Calm behavior in public
Confidence building
Real-world control
Troubleshooting problem behaviors
Using your training in normal life

We’ll also rotate locations depending on what we’re working on.

Some sessions may be at Paradigm K9 for more technical skill work. Others may be at parks, downtown areas, dog-friendly stores, on hikes, or even in a rented dog park where we can create a more controlled training environment.

This is not a free-for-all dog park group.

It’s structured. It’s coached. It’s intentional.

The goal is to help you and your dog keep making progress in the real world.

Founding Member pricing is $67/month, but that price is only available for a limited time before the regular membership price goes up.

Comment CLUB below or message us if you want to get on the Founding Member list.

Ongoing coaching, structured practice, and real-world training support for owners who want their dog’s obedience to hold up after training — at home, on walks, around distractions, and in everyday life.

E-collars are often misunderstood and misused. They can be a powerful communication tool when introduced correctly, layering pressure onto commands dogs already know. This method teaches dogs how to respond to pressure, ultimately leading to a better understanding and more effective training.

Rip Update – Working Through Resource Guarding

In this video, I’m working Rip through an exercise using a slow feeder bowl to teach a very important skill: how to let go of a resource on command and stay calm while a person is present.

We’re building this in a really intentional way.

First, I ask Rip to “out” (leave the food), then immediately send him to his place cot where he waits for further instruction. From there, he earns the opportunity to go back to the food.

This becomes a structured game:

Out → Place → Wait → Back to food

What this does is powerful…

Instead of Rip feeling like he has to protect the food or compete with me for it, he learns:
👉 Letting go doesn’t mean losing it
👉 Calm, compliant behavior is what gets him access again
👉 A person near his food is not a threat

We’re removing conflict and replacing it with clarity.

Over time, this shifts his mindset from possession and tension → to trust and cooperation.

This is how you actually fix resource guarding:
Not by forcing the dog off the resource…
…but by teaching them a better, more rewarding way to think and behave around it.

More updates on Rip coming soon.

Starting your day with consistency and structure matters more than most people think.

A lot of behavior problems don’t start in the moment they show up…

They build throughout the day.

If your dog wakes up and immediately gets freedom, stimulation, chaos, or attention on their terms, you’re already setting the tone.

But if the day starts with structure:

Calm behavior
Clear expectations
Follow-through

Everything after that becomes easier.

Consistency doesn’t mean doing something complicated.

It means doing the same simple things the right way every day.

This is where good dogs are built.
Not in big training sessions…
But in the small decisions you make from the moment the day starts.

Meet Aialik 🐾

Aialik is looking for the right home through Badass Bulldog Rescue — and when I say the right home, I mean someone who understands what it means to take on a special dog and continue the work that’s already been put in.

She’s deaf, but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit. She’s been fully trained on and off leash using clear hand signals and e-collar communication. She understands structure, expectations, and how to exist calmly in a home.

And personality-wise?
She’s sweet, goofy, and absolutely loves people. She’s the kind of dog that will make you laugh daily and want to be right by your side.

That said — let’s be clear about who she is so she lands in the right situation:

High prey drive → Cats may be possible, but only if they’re calm and the owner is experienced and intentional

Only dog home → This is non-negotiable for her long-term success

Dog interactions → She is a bite risk if allowed to freely interact with unfamiliar dogs, especially high-energy or unruly ones

She does live around my dogs, but that’s the result of a lot of structured, intentional training. That’s not something I expect the average home to replicate casually.

Here’s what makes this different from a typical adoption:

Aialik will come with 6 coaching sessions with me (fully covered by the rescue).

That’s not optional fluff — it’s a critical part of her transition.
Whoever adopts her needs to be serious about continuing her training and maintaining structure. That’s what gives her stability, clarity, and ultimately the best quality of life.

Who is she perfect for?

Someone who wants a loyal, well-trained companion
Someone who appreciates structure, communication, and clear expectations
Someone who is either experienced with bully breeds or willing to learn and follow through

If that sounds like you, reach out to Badass Bulldog Rescue and let’s make sure Aialik ends up exactly where she belongs.

This isn’t a “feel good, take her home and see what happens” situation.

This is a do it right, and you’ll have an incredible dog situation.

11 years ago today we brought Gibbs home. At the time I had no idea how much impact he was going to make and just how drastically and massively he would level up my life.

He was the first puppy I had raised since Mia, my Boxer who got me into dog training in the first place when I was just 18 years old. Even after going through an extensive and nationally known dog training school that first summer with Mia....I made so many mistakes.

I didn't know what I didn't know.

Mia was an absolute rock star obedience and personality wise but we struggled with lifelong separation anxiety as well as resource guarding. Mostly due to mistakes I had made, things I had ignored and left unaddressed etc.

It took me years to get another dog after Mia, we were so bonded I couldn't imagine having thet close of a relationship with another dog, and honestly I wasn't really interested in trying.

Fast forward 4 years: Gibbs fell in my lap essentially. A guy who has a litter of pointers he used for hunting was selling them out of his truck and the rest is history.

I took all my mistakes, failures, moments of inaction and put them under a microscope. I raised and trained Gibbs in a very specific way based on all of those lessons.

The dog training programs we currently run, our approaches, theories, methods.... everything....everything is because of Gibbs. He was my very first proof of concept that people can have their cake an eat it to when it comes to pet dogs.

You can have a high drive, high caliber working dog that does all those things he's naturally gifted at with precision, enthusiasm and grace.

But he can also just lounge in the living room with our kids when we are having a dreary, rainy Ohio day and be perfectly content just chilling and being lazy.

He can go to family get togethers and feel like an extended part of the family because his calm, polite yet still fun behavior enables that.

He can go to a restaurant on the water at buckeye lake and lay at our feet while we enjoy pizza and drinks with friends.

He can go on multi night backpacking trips with me while being OFF leash the entire time, even at night.

He can traverse through TSA and security at an airport, fly on a plan at my feet while we fly to Montana to live out epic adventures with me and my family.

This dog can do it all. And because of him and the lessons he's taught me, so can yours.
