Yes!!!! Horses only learn from the release. They are always seeking the release. “Holding “ reins short and tight does not create true collection - it creates  a horse that puts all the weight on its front feet rather than using its back muscles and butt

Constant rein pressure teaches the horse that nothing they do will ever be right. So they quit trying and go quiet and behind the bit. That’s not softness. That’s learned helplessness. That’s a nervous system in survival mode.

If you’re going to use your hands, make sure they are trustworthy. Your horse will thank you for it🤠
