✨ Welcome to puppy training. ✨

It’s messy.
It’s chaotic.
It’s a little ridiculous.

And somehow, in between the land-shark moments and the random zoomies, they’re learning. 🥹

You’re not failing because your puppy is distracted.

You’re not behind because they still bite.

You’re raising a tiny creature whose brain is basically 30% curiosity, 30% chaos, and 40% “what’s that?!”

Give them time.
Give them guidance.
And maybe keep your favorite pants out of reach. 😂🐕

We’ve somehow gotten the idea that if our dog is upset, frustrated, or disappointed with us, we must be doing something wrong.

Nope.

Your dog can want the other dog to come closer
Your dog can want to keep barking
Your dog can want another treat
Your dog can want to pull toward something

And you can calmly say nope, not today.

Setting a boundary isn’t the same thing as being harsh.
Frustration isn’t the same thing as harm.
And your dog being disappointed doesn’t mean you’ve broken their trust.

Your job isn’t to make sure your dog is happy every second. Your job is to help them feel safe, understood, and capable of navigating the world.

Sometimes that starts with a very loving:
“I know you want that. And the answer is no.” 🐾

Honestly, this is my version of self-care. 😂☕️🐕

An iced coffee ☕️
A good playlist 🎧
A dog who isn’t dragging me down the sidewalk 🐕‍🦺

And suddenly… life feels a little more manageable.

Because sometimes loose-leash walking isn’t about having your dog perfectly glued to your side.

It’s just being able to enjoy a walk together without your dog walking you.

That’s the dream. ✨

This is Part Six of my F*ck it Friday Series

This is a heavy one where I talk about the recent tragedies of dogs dying in the care of trainers here in the LA area.

My heart breaks for these families who are going through such a horrific experience with someone they thought they could trust.

The biggest mistake I see people make with teaching their dog loose leash walking? They think the goal is for their dog to walk perfectly beside them.

I’m not a dog trainer that requires your dog to be glued to your side for the entire walk.

Honestly, as long as there is slack in the leash (like in the video above) and they are checking back in with you; that’s all that matters.

Your dog should be able to sniff, explore, look around and enjoy their walk without constantly being corrected for not being in the perfect position.

The goal of loose leash walking is “you can explore your environment while still staying connected to me”

That’s a more realistic and enjoyable goal for both of you! 💕🦮

In this video I said this is Part Four, but it’s actually Part Five of my F*ck It Friday Series 🤦🏻‍♀️

One of the biggest mistakes dog parents make is assuming their dog is being stubborn.

More often than not, they’re not.

Dogs learn through association, which means your living room, front yard, neighborhood, and the park all feel like completely different classrooms.

Just because your dog knows a cue in one environment doesn’t mean they automatically understand it everywhere else.

That’s why we practice in different places.

Not because your dog “forgot”…

But because we’re teaching them that the same cue applies no matter where they are.

The goal isn’t a dog that listens in your kitchen.

It’s a dog that understands the cues everywhere.

👇 Where does your dog suddenly act like they’ve never heard the word “sit” before? The front yard? The park? Pet store? Tell me below.
