🇹🇭➡️🇺🇸 From Thailand to the USA—our FIFe journey is just beginning! 🐾

What an exciting time for the international cat fancy!

At the end of this month, our trusted breeder and friend in Thailand will be showing three of Phoenix Legacy’s foundation cats at the inaugural FIFe International Cat Show in Bangkok. We couldn’t be more proud to have our cats represented in the country where these incredible breeds originated. 🇹🇭❤️

Then, in September, we’ll continue that journey by attending the very first FIFe show in the United States in Houston, Texas, hosted by the American Cat Breeders Association (ACBA). 🇺🇸

Our mission has always been about more than showing cats—it’s about preserving, educating, and honoring Thailand’s original cat breeds while helping build a bridge between Thai and American cat fanciers.

We can’t wait to cheer on our cats in Bangkok and then meet fellow breeders and enthusiasts in Houston!

🇹🇭 Ancient Thai Cats vs. Modern Breeds

Did you know that not all brown cats are the same?

While the Suphalak, Burmese, and Tonkinese may share similarities, they each have their own unique history.

🐈 Suphalak
• One of Thailand’s ancient Maew Boran (Ancient Thai Cats).
• Described in historic Thai manuscripts such as the Tamra Maew (Cat Book Poems).
• Rich copper to reddish-brown coat with golden to amber eyes.
• A naturally occurring breed that has been treasured in Thailand for centuries.

🐈 Burmese
• Developed through selective breeding outside Thailand using Southeast Asian foundation cats.
• Known for its muscular body, silky coat, and affectionate personality.
• Recognized today as its own established breed with distinct breed standards.

🐈 Tonkinese
• A modern breed created by crossing the Burmese and Siamese (Wichienmaat).
• Famous for its beautiful aqua eyes and mink coat pattern.
• Combines characteristics from both parent breeds.

The Five Treasures of Thailand 🇹🇭🐈

Long before modern cat breeds existed, Thailand was home to a remarkable group of felines known as the Maew Boran—the Ancient Cats of Siam.

These weren’t simply pets.

They were treasured companions of royalty, temple guardians, symbols of prosperity, and living pieces of Thailand’s cultural heritage. Their stories were carefully preserved in ancient manuscripts such as the Tamra Maew (Cat Book Poems), where each breed was believed to carry its own unique beauty, symbolism, and place in history.

Today, only a handful of these extraordinary breeds remain.

At Phoenix Legacy, our mission goes beyond ethical preservation breeding. We believe that protecting these cats also means protecting the history, culture, and stories they carry with them.
