I’ve had a lot of looks in the dressage arena this year, but I can say this this is definitely my favorite. Polished, clean, and classy with just a little color. Anyone who knows me at home knows I Love color. I definitely don’t shy from pinks, purples, teals, and I almost always have some bright colored pad on while schooling. But, in the show environment, I am much more conservative about my look. I want the center of attention to be the horse. I mostly use white, grey, and black with a touch of color… like Salty’s sparkly purple bell boots. While I was warming up at Loch Moy Farm I looked up and saw that even with this little bit of burgundy piping, I had more color or flash on that anyone else. Everyone was in all black and white. I find it interesting how conservatively Eventers dress in the dressage phase compared to what I’ve seen in a lot of straight dressage shows. Maybe it’s because we get to show a little more color and personality in our other phases… like purple sparkly bell boots. 📷 Erin Gilmore Photography

I survived my first bronc experience with Prada this morning. What seemed to me as a perfect fall morning: cooler weather and nice breeze and some falling leaves can be interpreted very differently by a sensitive filly who has spent her life in Utah with no blowing long grass or random colored leaves falling to the ground. Thankfully, Prada is both smart and kind and was not actually trying to launch me off her back. I was told she’s a “professional’s horse” for a reason. She’s got a lot to learn, but I’m happy to be the one to show her the way.

What it looks like to lead start to finish 😎 My favorite thing: look how relaxed Salty is in every moment. This is how he was for the entire two days. This is the second event in a row where Salty and I have been in the top position wire to wire. We’ve put in the work we needed, and it looks like we’re both ready to start shooting for Intermediate once again. Thanks to The Maryland Horse Trials for putting on another super Event. 📷 Erin Gilmore Photography
