American Regent has issued a voluntary recall on Adequan. No adverse effects have been reported but if you have a vial with the adverse lot number discontinue use and contact us.

RECALL ALERT: American Regent, Inc. Animal Health is conducting a nationwide recall of two lots (25011 and 3369) of Adequan® Canine Injection (for dogs), 100 mg/mL 5mL multi-dose vials and two lots (24416 and 25265P) of Adequan® i.m. Injection (for horses), 500mg/5 mL single-dose 5mL vials to the consumer level. We are looking forward to the reprive from the heat tomorrow! However, drastic weather changes can be hard on our equine friends. You can take precautions by adding electrolytes or salt to their diet and offering "sweet tea" by adding alfalfa leaves, grain, or even peppermints to a bucket of water.

We have all been feeling the heat lately. Here are some helpful tips from AAEP on cooling off a hot horse. 🥵

If you are ever concerned about your horse showing signs if heat exhaustion, do not hesitate to contact your veterinarian.

If you feel hot, your horse feels even hotter.

Horses have a much harder time processing heat and humidity than humans. And among horses, foals usually cannot handle as much heat as adult horses. A mare may be fine, but her foal may be getting sick from being out on a hot day.

Horses with heavy muscling or excess fat or in poor condition will also be more susceptible to heat exhaustion. Keep in mind that exercise is a major source of body heat and strenuous work on a hot, humid day can lead to problems in a short period of time for even the best-conditioned horse.

Does this mean you should not ride on a hot and humid day? Not necessarily. It just means you should take precautions and use common sense. And remember: don't push it! If your horse looks tired, it’s time for a drink, a cold bath, and a break in the shade.

Summer is upon us! If you are thinking about traveling with your horse this summer, whether thay be shows, trail riding, hunting, breeding, or even grazing, it is important to know what documents may be required. Here is a general breakdown of state required paperwork:

Within state travel:
-Generally no paperwork is required. Some horse show venues may require proof of vaccines, coggins, or a health certificate depending on their rules so it is important to contact your venue before travel to make sure you are prepared.
-CO is a brand inspector state . A brand inspection is acquired through the CO Department of Agriculture.

Traveling between states:
-Negative coggins test: a blood test for EIA, typically valid for 12 months
- Health Certificate: a certificate of health confirming no signs of infectious disease. (Typically valid for 30 days depending on the state, venue, and any current disease outbreaks)
- CO requires a brand inspection confirming ownership.
