So much of what I do is for the little girl who dreamed of a life surrounded by horses, and for all the horses who have shaped me, taught me, and saved me in more ways than they’ll ever know.

And while I know I’ll never stop learning, growing, and trying to be better for them, I hope I never get so caught up in how far I still want to go that I forget how far I’ve already come.

Somewhere in the chaos, the endless to-do lists, the long days, and all the glitz and glamour of owning a farm, it’s easy to forget that this is the dream.

Still learning. Still growing. Still figuring it out.

But living a life that little me would be pretty proud ofšŸ¤

2020 vs. 2026 šŸ¤

So much has changed in these six years. Not just in Sugar’s balance, softness, and way of going, but in my own riding, understanding, and approach to training.

Of all the growth that’s happened over the years, this is some of what I’m most proud of.

I owe so much of this progress to the incredible mentorship of Riding Far, LLC and everything I’ve been learning through the French classical school of dressage. It’s completely changed the way I see, feel, and work with horses.

There’s still so much to learn, but looking back at where we’ve been makes me appreciate just how far we’ve come. šŸ¤

A little reminder that not every moment with a horse needs to be about what they can do for us šŸ¤

POV : your trainer asks you to explain the thought process behind whatever that… was

So much heart has gone into this horse šŸ¤

Everything we do with Izzy comes back to the art of feeling. Learning to listen, understanding what she needs, and helping her find a way of moving that feels as good as it looks.

There’s been so much learning, patience, and intention behind her progress, and while we still have plenty to work through, it really feels like we’re finding our way together.

Proud of this girl, her amazing owner Kate Lewis and the direction we’re headed. šŸ¤

She worked really hard on this, so please be supportive

Turns out we have very strong feelings about horse yawns around here. šŸ˜‚

In French classical dressage, so much attention is given to softness and mobility through the jaw and mouth and how that connects to relaxation throughout the rest of the horse.

What looks like ā€œjust a yawnā€ can actually be a release. A moment of letting go of tension held through the jaw.

It’s one of the things I’ve become increasingly fascinated by as I’ve gone deeper into this work. There is so much the horse can tell us when we stop trying to hold everything together and start paying attention to where they’re able to let go.

So yes. We will absolutely watch a horse yawn for twenty seconds. šŸ¤
