🐴💧 LET’S TALK ABOUT SOAKING YOUR HORSE’S GRAIN!

🌾 Why soak your horse’s feed?

💧 Helps prevent choking – Soaking feed can soften it and make it easier for some horses to swallow.

🦷 Easier to chew – Horses with missing teeth, dental disease, or other chewing difficulties may benefit from a softer meal.

🥣 Adds hydration – Soaked feed can provide additional water, which can be especially helpful during hot weather or for horses that don’t drink enough.

🐴 Helps horses that struggle to maintain weight – Soaking certain feeds can make meals easier to consume for senior horses or those with difficulty chewing.

⚠️ BUT REMEMBER: Not every feed should be soaked, and the amount of water and soaking time can vary depending on the type of feed your horse eats. Soaked feed should also be fed promptly and handled properly to prevent spoilage.

If you notice your horse quidding, dropping feed, coughing while eating, taking a long time to finish a meal, or having trouble maintaining weight, it may be time for a dental evaluation.

🩺 When in doubt, give us a call! We’re happy to help you determine what feeding strategy is best for your horse.

Good nutrition starts with making sure your horse can actually eat and utilize their feed! ❤️🐴

Today, Selby’s Farrier Service LLC pauses to reflect on a day that shook our foundation but proved the unbreakable strength of the American spirit.

We remember the 2,977 innocent souls taken too soon. We honor the immortal heroes—the first responders who gave everything, and the brave passengers and citizens who fought back to save others.

We also stand in deep gratitude for the thousands of brave men and women who answered the call in the days and years that followed, taking up arms to defend our freedom and fight back for our country.

Their courage reminds us of the heavy price of freedom and the power of standing together. We are forever grateful.

Behind every sound horse is a vet and a farrier working in perfect sync! 🐴💼

At Selby’s Farrier Service, we believe every complex hoof case deserves a collaborative approach. That’s why we love partnering with the incredible team at Greenville Mobile Equine Service, PA. On many cases, we have teamed up with Dr. Megan at Greenville Mobile Equine Service, PA time and time again, we’ve seen that a rock-solid vet-farrier relationship is the ultimate key to a horse’s success.

No single person has all the answers, but when a veterinarian and a farrier pool their expertise, the horse wins every single time. One of the most powerful tools in our shared toolbox? Radiographs (X-rays).

While a farrier can tell a lot by looking at the outside of a hoof, we can’t see through the hoof wall. Balance films and radiographs take the guesswork completely out of the equation. They are vital for diagnosing and tracking critical conditions, including:

White Line Disease: Catching anaerobic bacteria and fungi before they destroy the deeper layers of the hoof wall and cause severe separation.

Laminitis: Catching inflammation early so we can immediately jump into pain management and mechanical support.

Position of the Coffin Bone: Pinpointing exact measurements of any rotation or sinking so we can map out a precise realigning trim.

When Dr. Megan shoots the X-rays, it gives us an exact internal roadmap to trim and shoe with ultimate precision.

📢 Save the Date! We are excited to announce that we will be having another farrier day at the Greenville Mobile Equine Service, PA clinic on October 1st, 2026. It's the perfect opportunity to get those baseline radiographs done and collaborate on your horse's hoof health strategy!

Thank you to Dr. Megan and the crew at Greenville Mobile Equine Services for always being fantastic teammates and putting horse health first! 🤝❤️

Important Update from Selby’s Farrier Service LLC 🐴

To our valued clients,

We are reaching out today to share some important news regarding our upcoming price adjustments. Keeping our rates low has always been a priority, but to continue delivering the top-tier, reliable care your horses deserve, our prices will be increasing soon.

Here is why this change is necessary:

Economic Pressures: Rising costs of fuel, high-quality steel, and essential materials directly impact our daily operations.

Unsustainable Workload: To match current demand, we have been managing an overabundance of horses. Taking on this volume is simply no longer healthy or sustainable for our physical longevity.

Prioritizing Quality Over Quantity: Trimming down our roster allows us to give every single horse the focused, unhurried attention they need.

Meeting Demand Safely: This shift ensures we can remain reliable, show up on time, and never compromise on the safety or precision of our work.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and support as we make this transition to protect both our health and the quality of our service.

If you have any questions or concerns about these upcoming adjustments, please feel free to reach out directly at 252-274-9674.

Stay tuned, as we also have many other great, exciting changes coming to Selby's Farrier Service LLC soon! Thank you for trusting us with your hoof care needs.
