I put your horse down today.

You know the one you sold at auction for cheap. The one who was 24 years old and sick. Who had such severe dsld in her back legs and such swelling in her front legs that every second was pain for her. I took her in, with the plan to give her everything you hadn’t, love, a gentle hand and a safe place to call her own. But within 10 hours at our barn it was clear she was unbelievably miserable. She sat in the stall with her head against the wall, refusing to eat or drink, or to even come out of the stall.

I brushed her down, and got the dirt out of her fur. I braided her hair and showered her with praise, affection and love. I led her out into the pasture and held her and talked to her as she made way into her final transition.

So what’s my point?
DO BETTER FOR YOUR ANIMALS
DOG, CATS, HORSES, CHICKENS etc! Living animals deserve better than to be tossed aside when you’re done with them.

It’s been a minute. We have taken a break from rescuing while other things Im life required our attention but it never stops.

We have three horses coming in tomorrow

One will have to be put down as her owners decided to make a quick buck off her at auction instead of giving her the decency and burial she deserved.
The other two have a long road ahead of them. But I would like to show this mare who we rescued last year and is back with us. Her transformation at 27 years old speaks to the volume of adaptability and strength these creatures have to continue on DESPITE the constant misery they are put through.

Who are we to decide what value another living being has? Or to say that are not of value? Every living thing deserves respect

Just a reminder that both of these horses came from our page. They were rescues. Thrown away. They weren't perfect- but heck no one is ! But I wanted to post this as a remainder to those who say kill pen horses aren't worth anything!

There are plenty of rideable horses in the kill pens.

There are plenty of loving puppy dog horses.

There are plenty of pasture pets.

There are plenty of young projects.

There are plenty of older beginner safe horses with plenty of mileage on them.

There are broodmares, foals & stallions in kill pens! [ not to mention goats, mules, donkeys, & even occasional zebras, cows and the occasional sheep! ]

There are horses all sorts. Nothing is ever perfect- but I know several people who have told me they got just about perfect horses from the kill pen! They deserve chances too!

With the holiday season there has been a lot going on! Gambit found a home, he went for free to a lovely lady and her grandson who fell in love with him! He is doing wonderful and his new pasture mates are goats!

On another note- from then to now! Miss Sonia has been doing a complete turn around! To those who dumped her- know she is loved and taken care of ! She does have a little rain rot we are still fighting but it's such a small amount compared to when she arrived! You'd never know she is 26 years old!

I have picked Gambit up and my heart broke. This horse is the sweetest horse- and he loads, leads etc pretty much perfectly. He has a long way to go- but he also has a permenant home with us here as well- no matter his future. He absolutely loved his banana alfafa cookies!

We really look forward to seeing this guy fat and healthy - and looking and feeling the way he should and not the way he does. Like most horses, he absolutely did not deserve this!

¤ First I woulf like to apologize for the angry & laugh reacts- a scammer tried to sell the page a horse and when I called him out he got mad and him and his buddy came and made those reactions. ¤

Secondly and most important- we have two horses we are picking up this afternoon. These horses especially have been let down. Miss sonia is 26yo QH and is by far in the worst condition. She has been doing good in layover so far - and her spirits are good and she has s***k left! We pray she continues to make a strong recovery so she can live out her days peacefully!

The next horse is Gambit. Gambit is an early to mid teenager- and also has a pretty bad body score RN. On top of that- he has a significant heart murmur we will be invesitgating- and a bad eye that is causing him discomfort and will need removal. He has been doing well so far - and we expect him to make a recovery with little issue- though he may only be a pasture pet!

Their progress will updated as we get them back to the way they should be! Stay tuned!
