Up-Down CU is a pattern Game from Control Unleashed! This is a game meant to reinforce your dog's ⭐️Choice⭐️ to check in with you!
To play, place a treat on the ground, and whenever your dog chooses to look back up at you, REPEAT!

This game can be used to determine if your dog is in the right "headspace" remember, behavior is communication! If your dog is unable to play then that is them saying " I need help" try moving them to a different environment where they CAN be successful

How you move ✨MATTERS✨

In this video you see the second I change my own body to elicit a stronger response in my dogs.

I start first walking backwards facing 👉towards👈 my dogs.

Then I turn around and start to ✨Run Away✨ and my dogs immediately pick up speed to get me faster. They have a much stronger response once they're chasing me. No words were said, I didn't recall them, the only thing that changed was my body orientation.

So- if your dog is running away from you, or loose, or not recalling fast enough, try turning on your dogs chase instinct and RUN AWAY from your pup!

Approximately 3 weeks ago I brought home a untrained and severely under stimulated 1 year old Malinois puppy I named Kuvira, so what does a professional trainer do with a ✨big and strong✨ dog who has ZERO impluse Control? What are the FIRST things I teach my dogs whenever I bring them home?

Well, after making sure I can meet their mental stimulation, physical exercise, and social needs I put a LOT of "money in the bank" for ✨attention✨ and connection with me.
I teach and practice pattern games such as Up-Down, 1-2-3, Give me a Break and Vito to learn her learning style, how she responds to her environment and what motivates her.

Kuvira is a bit of a "let's check out the environment" type dog, she loves her ball and food, she loves to explore her environment and *loves* to run more than anything. Vira does best if she's given time to settle in and given opportunities to explore with her nose and *choose* to reconnect with me. Which is being rewarded ✨a f**k ton✨

So- the first thing I teach dogs whenever they come into my home is that Connecting with me Pays BIG TIME and if I can build that connection through play, food and access to her environment then everything else will fall into place with careful training.

Putting a lot of skill points in "check in with mom" really pays off!

Behind us are a flock of Geese, Ducks and chickens, all of Sozins favorite things to chase, but without a word he chooses to check in with me. Because we've worked hard on reinforcing check-ins without "nagging" or "telling" him what to do.

Be mindful of how much you're asking from your dog.

Here in this video I am testing Sozins understanding of a few different cues such as "go to mat", his automatic impulse control "get it" and his "heel" cue.

Me and Sozin have done a lot of work on "go to Mat" inside the house and lots of implied mat work in public spaces, but never outside and never without food rewards (we're using a toy today and I had no food with me) so there is a lot of different variables at play here that can affect Sozins understanding of "Go to Mat" and "Get it" and "heel" but he's very good at all of these things and executed them wonderfully.

So whenever you're working with your dog be mindful of how much you're asking from your dog by changing the environment, reward type, reward placement, the weather (it was hot, hence Sozins attitude), ect.
