The Safety Back-Up clip is a dual connector clip designed to attach a leash to an extra safety device, usually connecting a leash to a Martingale collar while the harness acts as the main attachment point.

These handy leashes are fantastic for ensuring your dog's safety, particularly if your furry friend tends to slip out of harnesses or collars. This little Diva shown below perfectly demonstrated the importance of the safety backup clip when she managed to back out of her harness TWICE! Thanks to this incredible and practical tool, we avoided having a loose Malinois!

Thank you Mainely Pets - Care & Products for handcrafting our ✨life saving✨ tool!

This is what a Happy and Engaged dog looks like! Notice how Sozin is still looking around and taking his environment in while also checking in with me? That's exactly what I want when I take my dog into pet friendly stores. Happy, engaged, walking on a loose leash and still paying attention to his environment.

For my Maine Clients! Kaynine Dog Training is an amazing trainer who I highly recommend, and if you can share her page around that would be incredibly helpful!

This is a video of my recent Board and Train Puppy Ruby! Ruby is a working line Border Collie who has a serious case of car chasing. Ruby's parents report that Ruby would lay down and refuse to move if she so much as heard a car coming. I had Ruby for one week and in that week we saw GREAT improvement. Ruby at first wouldn't offer any attention if we were outside and, like any typical puppy, had a very short attention span and a even lower frustration tolerance.

Here we can see Ruby taking what she learned after a few days with me and applying it to her biggest trigger. She did AMAZING. Her focus improved dramatically, she was able to recall off of cars and she was able to respond to patterns to calm herself down.

Stay tuned for how we accomplished this!

The best thing to do on a hot day with your dog? SCENTWORK!! (Or in this case, treat- find its)

Not only does scent-work build confidence in your dog (Sozin used to be extremely sensitive with where he put his body, and now look at him!) it also works your dog's mind and can be a fun activity you do together. I highly recommend finding a quiet place to take your dog and just hide treats!

Me and Sozin working on our OB skills practicing for the BH test. Which is a "entrance exam" for IGP.
His heelwork is getting much better and I am proud of us.

Today my dog made a mistake in training.

While in Home Depot me and Sozin were practicing Down in Motions, which is where you ask the dog to down while you continue to move and the dog should down immediately in place. Sozin is decent at this "trick" and has done it a hundred times.

But today, when I asked for the Down he stopped and Stood, and then took a few steps whenever I turned around.

I could've corrected him in that moment, told him "No that was incorrect" and plenty of other trainers would've done just that. I didn't.

I went back to him and gave him a few lower value cookies and tried again. The second rep Sozin did EXACTLY what I wanted!

Why didn't I correct Sozin? Because Sozin TRIED. He was giving me Effort. He was giving me the best he had in the environment he was in with the information he was given.

I believe dogs should be given grace, empathy and more clear information whenever they get "things wrong" I choose to be proactive vs reactive in the moment. If Sozin wasn't able to do what I asked after a second time then that was him telling me he wasn't in the headspace to do that behavior. And THAT IS OKAY.

Give your dog Grace and Empathy.
