🤣🐾 TATER WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A STATEMENT. 🐾🤣

Tater says he DID NOT violate the toilet paper.

He swears.

He has absolutely NO idea how the toilet paper ended up shredded, scattered everywhere, and somehow wrapped around his entire body. 🤷‍♀️😂

He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

According to Tater, the toilet paper was already like that when he arrived.

And that innocent little face clearly says:

“Do you have any actual evidence?” 👀🤣

After reviewing the crime scene, we have determined there is insufficient evidence to prosecute.

CASE DISMISSED. ⚖️🐱🧻

Tater is free to go.

The toilet paper, however, did not survive. 😂🐾

🐾❤️ WELL… TONIGHT GOT INTERESTING. ❤️🐾

Tonight we had to do a little… creative trespassing …… to remove four kittens and two adult cats from a foreclosed home.

It’s a long story. A VERY long story.

But the important part is:

THEY ARE ALL SAFE. ❤️

That’s the good news.

The bad news?

We just added SIX MORE MOUTHS TO FEED to an already very full rescue. 😳🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

We also ended up with five more 4-5 week old kittens today, another different, long story…. 😜🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

Judging by the welcoming committee surrounding the “foreclosure kittens” carrier, everyone here has already been notified of the new arrivals. 😸

Unfortunately, we are once again completely out of kitten food, and with so many little mouths in our care right now, we could seriously use some help restocking.

🥫 We need wet kitten/cat food.
🥣 We need dry kitten/cat food.
❤️ Honestly, we will gratefully use anything you would like to donate.

Donations can be dropped off at the SNAP thrift shop in Palo Cedro, or if you’d like to send food our way our address is at the top of the page, we would appreciate it more than you know.
I added our Amazon wish list to the bottom of this post. ❤️

Six more are safe tonight.

Six more aren’t hungry, scared and alone in an empty house.

And tomorrow morning…eleven more kittens are going to wake up expecting breakfast. 🐾

Thank you for continuing to help us keep all these little bellies full. We truly couldn’t do this without you.

We have some absolutely DARLING little 8-week-old FLUFF NUGGETS hanging out with us! 😍

They’re tiny.
They’re fluffy.
They’re ridiculously cute.
And they are fully prepared to destroy your productivity for the rest of the day. 🤣

Come by, get yourself a little kitten therapy, soak up some purrs, and meet these adorable babies!

⚠️ WARNING: Side effects of visiting may include excessive baby talk, uncontrollable “awwwwws,” and accidentally going home with a kitten, or two. 😂🐱❤️

COME GET YOUR KITTEN FIX!

Because sometimes you just need to hold a tiny fluff nugget and forget about the rest of the world for a minute. 🥰🐾

❤️🐾 EVERYBODY GOT AN UPGRADE! 🐾❤️

I got a new pillow-top mattress… and let me tell you, IT IS HEAVENLY. 😍🤣

After sleeping on my old mattress since approximately the dawn of civilization—okay, the 1980s—I finally upgraded. 😂

But apparently, nothing in this house gets thrown away without first going through Tater and Bug for approval.

My ancient mattress has now been repurposed into their very own:

🐱 CLIMBING WALL
🐱 GIANT CAT BED
🐱 OBSERVATION DECK WITH A VIEW
🐱 PLACE TO SIT AND JUDGE ME FROM ABOVE

So basically…

I got a new mattress, and Tater and Bug got a new condo. 🤣🤣🤣

Everybody wins!

And after nearly 40 years of service, my old mattress has officially begun its second career.

From supporting my ass to supporting theirs. 🤣🤣🤣❤️🐾

💔🐾 FOR THE KITTENS WE COULDN’T SAVE 🐾💔

Rescue often brings heartbreak.

Managing feral colonies comes with its own challenges, and unfortunately, my colonies—like so many others—are often used as dumping grounds.

Sometimes we find the dumped kittens.

Sometimes we don’t.

The last few months, we have found three kittens who had apparently been dumped and then wandered aimlessly through the forest until, somehow, they found one of the areas where we feed our colonies.

They were found months apart, but their condition was heartbreakingly similar.

All three were covered in ticks.
All three were emaciated.
All three had been starving, dehydrated.
And all three eventually lost their fight.

Cats can be incredibly hardy and adaptable, to a point, but kittens are different. They don’t have the body reserves of an adult cat. They don’t have the experience or survival skills to suddenly fend for themselves in an unfamiliar place.

Dumping a kitten near a colony does NOT mean the colony will take it in.

It does NOT mean it will find the food.

It does NOT mean it will survive.

Sometimes it means that little kitten wanders through the woods, hungry, frightened and alone until its tiny body simply cannot go any farther.

The little black kitten is the one weighing especially heavily on my heart.

She was so skinny. So sucked up. So depleted.

But God, she wanted to live.

She ate.

She purred.

She soaked up affection.

She wanted to be loved.

She wanted a life.

And for a few days, we let ourselves believe maybe love, food, warmth and medical care would be enough to undo what had been done to her.

But her little body had endured too much starvation for too long.

Sometimes in rescue, no matter how desperately you want to save them, you simply can’t.

And then the only gift you have left to give is to end their suffering.

We held her, loved her, and let her go.

And it hurts.

It hurts to finally find a kitten who has somehow survived long enough to reach you. It hurts to get your hopes up. It hurts to watch them begin to trust you and realize that people can be kind.

And it is absolutely awful to then have to euthanize that same kitten a week later because someone abandoned her long before you ever had the chance to help.

This is for the little black kitten.

And for the tabby kitten before her.

And for the sweet orange kitten who suffered the same fate.

And especially for all the little ones we never found.

The ones who wandered away from the road instead of toward our feeding stations.

The ones whose cries nobody heard.

The ones whose stories we will never know.

I hope there is a heaven for kitties.

I hope somewhere there is a place where their bellies are always full, their bodies never hurt, and they never have to be afraid.

A place with warm sunshine, soft beds and gentle hands.

A place completely free from the cruelty and evil that exists in this world.

And I hope when they get there, somehow they know…

They mattered.

Even the ones we couldn’t save.

Even the ones we never found.

They all mattered. 🖤🐾🌈

⚠️🐱 PSA: CATS, KITTENS & COLLARS — PLEASE READ! 🐱⚠️

We had a SNAP kitten come into the clinic to be spayed wearing a beautiful little green velvet collar. It was a very stout collar with a metal buckle.

It looked adorable.

But it could have been a death sentence.

I took the collar off, buckled it, and gave that buckle several REALLY hard tugs.

It did NOT break away.

After three decades in rescue, I can tell you some horror stories about cats and collars. Personally, I am not a fan of putting anything around a kitten or cat’s neck.

Cats climb. They squeeze through fences. They crawl under things. They jump into trees. They get into places we couldn’t imagine them getting into.

A collar can become caught on a branch, fence, crate, piece of furniture, or any number of things. A frightened cat doesn’t calmly wait for someone to come help. They panic, twist, pull and fight to get loose.

And if that collar doesn’t release, the outcome can be horrific.

⚠️ IF YOU MUST PUT A COLLAR ON YOUR CAT, PLEASE USE ONLY A TRUE BREAKAWAY COLLAR. ⚠️

And don’t just trust the package because it says “breakaway.”

TEST IT YOURSELF.

Buckle it and pull it apart with your own hands BEFORE you ever put it around your cat’s neck. It should release under firm pressure. If that buckle won’t come apart, think about what could happen if your cat were hanging from it.

I learned firsthand just how important this is.

I have a barn cat who LOVES to roam. Because he hunts critters along our private gravel road at night, I wanted him to be more visible, so I kept putting reflective breakaway collars on him.

That cat lost at least a DOZEN collars. 🤦‍♀️

I finally gave up replacing them.

Then one night, I spotted him way up in a tree in my orchard. I shined a flashlight up there to see what the heck he was doing.

I found my cat…

AND AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN OF HIS REFLECTIVE COLLARS HANGING IN VARIOUS TREES! 😳

Those collars weren’t failures.

THEY DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO.

Every one of those collars represented a time he potentially got caught on something and the collar released from his neck.

Now imagine if I had put a heavy-duty collar with a metal buckle on him that wouldn’t let go.

That thought still makes my stomach turn.

❤️🐾 THIS IS ALSO WHY WE MICROCHIP OUR CATS AND KITTENS.

A collar and tag can be lost—and in the case of a breakaway collar, sometimes we WANT that collar to come off if it means saving the cat’s life.

A microchip provides permanent identification that stays with your cat and can help get them home if they’re ever lost. Just remember that the chip needs to be registered and your contact information kept current.

So please:

🐱 If your cat doesn’t need a collar, consider going without one.

🐱 If you choose to use one, BREAKAWAY ONLY.

🐱 Test the buckle yourself before putting it on your cat.

🐱 And MICROCHIP YOUR CAT and keep that registration information updated.

A pretty collar isn’t worth your cat’s life.

If it can’t break away, don’t put it on your cat. ❤️🐾

🚨🐾 ATTENTION TEHAMA COUNTY — WE HAVE A DATE AND A LOCATION! 🐾🚨

We are SO excited to announce that Tehama County residents will now have a local place to purchase our Mill Creek Veterinary Hospital SNAP spay/neuter vouchers! 🎉🐱

A HUGE thank-you to the wonderful crew at Tractor Supply Co. in Red Bluff for graciously allowing us to set up at their location! ❤️

📅 GOING FORWARD:
We will be at Tractor Supply in Red Bluff on the FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH from 4–6 PM selling Mill Creek vouchers!

⚠️ BUT SEPTEMBER IS DIFFERENT! ⚠️

For THIS MONTH ONLY, we will be there:

🐾 SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
⏰ 4–6 PM
📍 TRACTOR SUPPLY — RED BLUFF

💰 VOUCHER PRICES:
🐱 Female: $105
🐱 Male: $95

You don’t need to be a Tehama county resident to purchase a voucher for Mill Creek. We don’t care where you live. Our program is not city/county specific.

⚠️ For the time being, vouchers will be LIMITED TO TWO PER HOUSEHOLD per month. This will help us make sure as many families as possible have an opportunity to take advantage of the program.

Mill Creek has availability to start doing SNAP voucher spays and neuters the week of September 21! 🎉

💰 PLEASE NOTE: CASH ONLY!

And when we say cash, we mean good old-fashioned GREEN CASH. 😂💵

We are working on getting a Cash App option set up, but until that happens, please come prepared with cash.

This is something we’ve really wanted to make happen because we know driving all the way to Palo Cedro to purchase a voucher is a haul for our Tehama County folks. So we’re bringing the vouchers to YOU! ❤️🐾

And there’s another great reason to stop by Tractor Supply on Sundays!

🐶🐱 Tractor Supply hosts a VIP Petcare clinic on Sundays! They offer convenient preventative veterinary services, so be sure to check them out while you’re there.

Please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE so we can get the word out to Tehama County!

More access to affordable spay/neuter means more cats altered, fewer unwanted litters, and fewer kittens entering an already overwhelmed rescue system. ❤️🐱

SEE YOU SEPTEMBER 13 FROM 4–6 PM AT TRACTOR SUPPLY IN RED BLUFF! 🐾🎉

🌧️🌧️ WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THIS WEATHER?! 🌧️🌧️

We’ve been having some seriously unusual rain for this time of year, and apparently the colony cats have decided they’re done fighting it.

RAINCOATS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. 🤣☔️

Nobody is particularly happy about it.

The orange cats are confused.

The black cats are judging everyone.

And somewhere there’s probably one cat refusing to come out because his raincoat is the wrong color. 😂

At this rate, our next SNAP fundraiser is going to be:

☔️ “SPONSOR A RAINCOAT FOR A FERAL.” ☔️

Because nothing says California in early September quite like an entire cat colony marching through the oak trees looking like they’re headed to preschool on picture day. 🤣🤣🤣

Stay dry, everybody!

The cats have it handled.

Well…except the orange ones.
They still don’t know what the hell is going on. 🤣🧡🐱🌧️☔️🐾
