Little Alana has been in our sanctuary program for nine years today, and caught our eye at the feedlot due to her uncanny resemblance to CH EQ Chantis Prayer. She arrived sickly, full of mucous. And had toes so long they looked like elf shoes. She was easy to rehab, thank goodness, and it's been mostly fun and games ever since! She is approximately 33 years old, and loved toting the lesson kids around at a full speed rack for many years until she retired.

Layna is the smallest mare on the farm, but is large and in charge in every herd situation she has ever been in, bossing even the largest horses around and scaring them into submission. 😂❤️ She has maternal instincts for days, for animals and people alike. When I was going through some major health problems, I was once down in her field and had to call someone to come help me. Alana stood over me and ran all the other horses in her field off until help arrived. She also did the same for an injured possum once, and got my attention so I could come help it, and another time, she guided me to a fence line where our neighbors dog had gotten caught in a coyote snare. She is the most caring and kind horse I have ever met, and I have always been so surprised by her dedication to her friends and people (and her ability to join forces with me against my husband whenever he makes me mad, as she joins in to irritate him, too). 😜😂I hope we get many more years of friendship out of our little racking machine!

"Lately, I’ve been very quiet about something that weighs heavily on my heart…

Donations and sponsorships for the Sanctuary have slowed down tremendously over the last few years. Outside of the incredible matching fundraiser from our sweet friend, support has become very limited… and I know we are not alone in this. The world feels heavy for so many people right now, and I truly understand that because I’m living in it too.

This is not a” please save us” post.
And it’s not written from anger or blame.

It’s simply an honest moment of transparency from someone who has dedicated her life to these animals.

Running a sanctuary is beautiful… it is also relentless.
The Feed still arrives.
The medical needs still happen.
The Farrier still comes.
The Senior horses and all the special needs horses receive top care.
Add every single morning, the animals still look at us, trusting we will show up for them.
And of course we do.

For well over a decade, this Sanctuary has been built with love, sacrifice, grit, and the incredible community of people who believed animals deserve safety, dignity, and kindness.
Sometimes I wonder if people realize how much rescues across the country are struggling right now.
Many are quietly drowning, while trying to continue showing strength online.

If you have a favorite rescue… whether it’s ours or another one you love, this is a gentle reminder that your support truly matters. Even small monthly sponsorships, sharing posts, telling others about the mission, or simply staying engaged helps more than people know.

We are still here.
Still fighting.
Still caring.
Still believing these horses lives matter.

I was about to post the same, so thank you to So Cal Mini Sanctuary for expressing what I have wanted to share for the longest time. We are drowning. We need HELP. it seems like our pleas for assistance are just screams into the void. :(

Our first load of hay was delivered today! It was $880, and we are giving away cookbooks to all donors over $30, and entering everyone who donates $100 into a drawing for a stay at a Disney deluxe resort of your choosing. Get those donations in to win!
